Texas A&M to seat most in SEC at 102,500

Sure didn't take the Aggies long turn that program around. Craziness!

http://espn.go.com/college-football/story/_/id/9233122/texas-aggies-approve-plans-seat-more-100000-sec-largest-stadium

COLLEGE STATION, Texas -- Texas A&M football stormed into the national consciousness during the 2012 season with a new conference, a new coach and a new Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback. Soon, the Aggies will have a bigger, better, newer Kyle Field to call home.

The Texas A&M board of regents announced approval of the redevelopment of the Aggies' longtime home with plans to expand capacity to 102,500, making it the largest stadium in the SEC and the third-largest stadium in college football.

Only Michigan and Penn State have greater capacity, and A&M's construction will just surpass Tennessee's 102,455 capacity at Neyland Stadium.

Kyle Field's current capacity is 82,589.

The project, which will cost $450 million, will begin after the 2013 football season concludes and is scheduled for completion in 2015.

The Aggies will continue to play their home games at Kyle Field throughout the construction process, which will take place in two phases during the 2013-14 and 2014-15 offseasons.

The project will be funded by donations, seat licenses, student fees and ticket revenue, as well as a preferred facilities agreement between the Bryan-College Station convention and visitors bureau that will use hotel and tax revenue for the next 30 years.

years. CU administration announces that the east end zone will be completed, bowl style, with the Hill left in place other than enclosure by upper EEZ deck; then 3rd level upper decks will be added to the south and north stands along with free binoculars to fans occupying those seats; upper deck corner seats will be sold on a first-come, first-served basis for $5 each with a free 12-pack for additional incentive; and the WEZ will be restyled as a "Standing Room Only" section, thus, doubling the number of tickets. The biggest news will be the "Guaranteed Full Stadium Policy," regardless of opponents, that will allow busloads of high school students to await until minutes before opening kickoffs for CU officials to determine attendance. Then, all open seats will be made available to those students for $1 each. The only requirement of the students: they have to be decked out in orange...and swear a loyalty oath to dear, ole Clemson before receiving a Cheapo-Depot ticket.

As they say at Sandy's Hot Dogs: "Looks like a beeeeg weiner to me!"

According to UT's website, Neyland holds over 104k. http://www.utsports.com/genrel/081001aaa.html

Wiki lists it as 102,455 so according to that A&M would be larger.

bretheren said , it'd take A&M as long as it took them just to get to 500 in the mighty SEC. Had A&M not been breaking in a a freshman QB, they would have won the SEC their first year. I love the fact that they beat Bama after Stevie convinced his team and the Columbia press that Bama couldn't be touched. PRICELESS

Hope they've done their homework

I don't know if there are enough people in that part of the world to have another 100,000 seat stadium. This feels like a "whip it out and measure" situation. They just wanted to be bigger than Texas and just happened to be 500 seats more than Tennessee.

Nothing in A&Ms history suggests that they fill 100k seats. They average low 80s and under the capacity of Kyle. Unless they can continue at the top of the SEC West the shine will wear off of that penny quickly.
