Late night CB for Cobb to Auburn

Jun 28, 2022, 5:32 AM

missed on another RB target.

"I love this place, I've got a spot already picked out where I want 'em to put me when I die - up there on that ole hill near the stadium. I want to be there so I can hear all them people cheering my Tigers on Saturdays; then I won't have to go Heaven; I'll already be there."- Frank Howard

Spiller is now 0-8 on RB targets. Not bad.

It’s obvious that all of these misses are afraid of competition. We can’t all have a weak RB room like UGA and Bama.

...by any of these ancient/homer fans.

Guessing none of the RB's like Spiller?

Kinda odd. We've lost more RB's to the portal than we've gained in the last 3 years.

yeah I'm thinking we get one from the portal and not be the middleman sending there for a change

The lack of RB recruiting since Spiller's arrival is a bit concerning but not one of those RB's you just listed would break the 3 deep at Clemson right now.

Oh yeah....Coot!

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Clemson doesn't care about basketball....as evidenced by Brown-L getting 14 years.

Why would we want an RB from the portal

Jun 28, 2022, 7:59 AM [ in reply to 7:08AM...havent been called a coot yet ]

unless we were desperate? Didn't most if not all guys in the portal fail to win the starting position at their old school? And we have at least 3 guys who are established and would keep them on the sidelines if they stay healthy. If we take a portal guy, it would be just to have back-up.

Exactly. David Hale thinks we have the best RB crew in the ACC.

I’m not saying that our missing on RBs isn’t a concern worthy of fan discussion, but we have a great RB roster right now. The portal? Waste of time, I think.

But yes, it is a bit curious that we aren’t getting RBs. Hard to imagine CJ not connecting with kids or his personality not attracting them. He has NFL credentials and was unreal at Clemson.

Re: Exactly. David Hale thinks we have the best RB crew in the ACC.

Jun 28, 2022, 8:59 AM

David Hale is rating the RB roster for this upcoming season. We are currently recruiting for the 2023 season. For the 2022 class we signed one guy who did not have any other D1 offers. So far in 2023 we got zilch. RB is a position where injuries are common plus we dont want to go into the out years counting on a freshman to start and be a home run. Perhaps we can pick up a graduate RB along the way but the fact that we cant seem to attract a quality RB is at least concerning. For the haters i did not say panic....

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Yeah, it sounds like you and I mostly agree.

Jun 28, 2022, 9:30 AM

I think we all can see that we aren't on the mark with our RB recruiting lately. It is puzzling and a concern and I hope and trust that CJ and the staff will figure it out.

But in the meantime, we have a great roster of running backs, with three guys that are absolutely and provenly legit (as Hale says, all three could probably start on 10 of the 14 rosters in the ACC). And we have them all for at least one more year after that. So that's solid. And we have Keith Adams Jr coming in - I realize he's not "blue chip" but we are talking depth here. We have eight running backs on the roster. So I agree that our recruiting is a concern but don't think we have any need to take a gamble on the portal, especially when so many of those do not pan out.

Clemson recruits by area

Jun 28, 2022, 9:53 AM [ in reply to Re: Late night CB for Cobb to Auburn ]

Clemson recruits by area not by position. There could be some blame for not sealing the deal, but it's a team approach from finding the prospect and building the relationship.

Guarantee you that Cobb spent the bulk of his official with Spiller. And I bet you that Spiller is in constant contact with him. If we blame Robbie Caldwell for poor OL recruiting, we need to blame Spiller also

missed on another RB target.

I'm not totally clear on CB acronym. Normally CB means cornerback to me. Sometimes, I think CB also refers to Crystal Ball predictions, which is what I assume your post is referring to. However, I think normally there is a recruiting site that provides several CB authors. So, if this is a Crystal Ball prediction, is this CB post a consensus CB from the site, or just the latest CB author to offer up his prediction. Also, your post, and several other posts in response, seem to treat this CB as a firm commitment, as opposed to a prediction.

As far as I know, Cobb doesn't make his commitment announcement until ! July. As far as I know, we're still within his top 3 choices. However, I always thought Cobb was a long shot anyway, since he has had a steady stream of visits to Auburn over the last year, which is just down the road from his home. I only think he's been to Clemson 2-3 times. I was pinning my hopes to the fact that two of his recent teammates are new enrollees to the Tigers this year, and hopefully, they were recruiting him hard to join them. Also, since it was reported that our early June Official Visit weekend was a huge success with several visitors (that have not committed already) would be committing soon to Clemson. I'm still waiting for his announcement. Do you, or your fellow posters. have some inside knowledge?

If not, it seems you and your fellow posters are a little premature in being so negative. In any case, CJ is still new to the staff, and still building his recruiting connections. I have full confidence he will be adding key RB commitments in the next couple of years. Just MHO.

No one is being negative. Simply speaking our mind based on the currently available information. The crystal ball (CB) is not even close to 100% but its not 25% either so there is cause for concern given our RB roster and what it will look like in 23 and 24 if we dont sign a legit back in the 23 class.

We have not had an offensive that can consistently open holes for a running back. When we improve in that area, our recruiting of RB's should improve also. Just my opinion.
