Does the SEC need or even want Clemson, Fla St., and Miami? Seems they (SEC) would take great joy in not taking the ACCs big 3 and go with a NC school and VA Tech maybe even Pitt. It's about TV market share, they have all the big names they want

When Miami is hot they are the best draw of the 3. It is not surprising that the media is begging for Miami to be back.

TV Market is a geographical thing, in todays world

digital has no geographical boundary. Eyeballs in Boston, Pittsburgh etc are going to by a wide margin watch Clemson vs Bama or FSU vs LSU over a Pitt or BC vs whoever they are playing. It’s proven via data which teams draw interest/eyeballs. It’s not even close - Clemson and FSU are by far at the top of the ACC and will therefore have a landing place in one of the big 2.

Clemson's TV market consisted of people who would watch Clemson on TV, and therefore was not confined to geographical markets.
In other words, there are traditional geographical tv markets which TV execs, programmers, and advertisers use to compile data which is used for all kinds of decision making. Clemson's TV market is comprised of people who are likely to watch Clemson sports, and while the vast majority of those are in certain geographical markets, Clemson's market is not limited to or defined by those geographical markets.
For instance, Clemson's TV market is the same geographically as Furman's; in that sense they share the same markets. But, Clemson's market is much, much bigger than Furman's, simply because there are more people who will watch Clemson, within their geographical market, and beyond.

I believe previously it was a lot more based on geography because the home states/metropolitan areas will carry the conference games of schools which are in-state. That's why Rutgers was such a prized possession despite not having much support or success.
I think legalized sports gambling & streaming services are changing how they measure value though. Sports gambling is legal in over 30 states, with only 8 states remaining that don't have anything expected before 2025. The proliferation of sports gambling paired with the widespread availability of watching the games thanks to streaming networks means compelling matchups are as important as ever to networks. The die-hard fans in regions like the South & Midwest are always going to tune in, but for places like the West & Northeast, where the fans are more casual and are mostly looking for the most interesting game to bet on, brands will matter more than they have in the past. Clemson isn't a national brand like Alabama, Notre Dame, or Ohio State but we've made a significant improvement over the past 10+ years and that should help the Tigers when it comes to reorganization.

I'm just listening to the podcast "The Solid Verbal" and they're discussing conference expansion and one of them made the point that the leagues are definitely going to be gunning to have as many teams as possible in the new expanded playoff, which would be another plus for Clemson and FSU based on their past.

Who cares what those mouth breathers want? Until we join the SUC I'll continue to despise them. Even if we were to join that conference, I would never be able to pull for the other teams in the conference. I never pull for the other teams in the ACC either. They are the enemy in my opinion.

You are 100% correct. Whether we like it or not, North Carolina and Virginia are the 2 most valuable potential additions to the SEC and Big10 because there are no SEC or Big10 teams in those states.

If its about TV markets, the B1G will want Clemson and FSU to get a foothold in the southeast and would get 3 of the last 10 national titles in doing so. The SEC would have to decide if they want the B1G getting those two powers in the SE footprint and may invite to play a little defense... but either way, Clemson/FSU is valuable and will not be crawling to the B12.

Another way to look at it: why in the world
1

would the SEC want another P5 gaining any foothold within its territory?
In other words allowing Clemson, FSU (at the very least) to ugo into the B1G would present exactly the type of scenario above. That gives the B1G greater access to southern recruits. Why? Because a lot of B1G members will play a lot of football (and other sports) deep in the heart of our glorious, beloved Southland. Meaning greater exposure right within SEC grounds.
Lastly, why would any conference not want two of the more prominent programs? That type of thinking would defy logic.

Streaming doesn't care about TV markets like in the past. The game has changed.

It actually does matter to streaming, because streaming is still set up more like cable.

There is no evidence the SEC wants to add Clemson, Florida State, or Miami.
The SEC has yet to renegotiate it's exclusive ESPN deal with Texas and Oklahoma joining.
Additionally, with the ACC and SEC both being locked up exclusively with ESPN, there is no reason for ESPN to want any ACC schools to change conferences.
Do people think someone is sitting at his office at ESPN telling his boss, "We have exclusive TV rights for these thirty teams. Let's pay some of them more than we need to!"

The SEC does not want OSU and Michigan playing games at Clemson and Fla State stadiums. Can you imagine the ratings?
