But I don't feel like this was fair to Streeter

OK, we have been talking for months about "best is the standard" and was Dabo becoming too stubborn, insular, loyal, etc. And I mentioned a month ago, that we wouldn't know anything for a month after the bowl game.

Boy, was I wrong. Dabo has pulled the trigger - and brought in arguably one of the brightest offensive minds in the country. This is huge and I am excited to see what he can do to re-elevate our offense.

All that being said, I think Streeter was treated unfairly. Dabo pulled his name out of the hat. I doubt that Streeter lobbied for the OC position. Then he handed him an offense that was shaky at QB, shaky at WR, and shaky at O-line. And Streeter actually improved the offense from 2021. So I think he DESERVED another year or more.

Now perhaps it was Streeter that kept insisting that DJU remain the starter (I doubt that) or perhaps it was Streeter who insisted on going away from our RBs (the best athletes on the team) at inopportune times. But absent evidence of those things,. he was not given a fair chance to grow into the position. And I think that was unfair of us. I cannot imagine that he views the experience or the way he was treated as positive. I feel bad for the guy. I think he deserved better from us.

All THAT being said, I am excited as ##### to see what Riley can do for the offense and how recruiting is going to pick up as a result of that prospect. Dabo has done what is best for the program as a whole and I feel much more positive about our future.

It was Streeter who couldn't develop DJ

Jan 12, 2023, 6:40 PM

Or the others. Garrett will likely be the QB coach now and that excited me more than being the OC.

To be fair, we were starting to lose ground pretty fast, not only in results but in the court of public opinion and that impacts a lot of things including, most importantly, recruiting. We needed a big shake-up that would reverberate around the college football world and change the narrative about Clemson football. You are already seeing a narrative that says, "Clemson Football is back."

I think this is exactly what we needed. I'm sorry Streeter didn't pan out but it was the right call at the right time. Even Dabo makes mistakes but he was the only one who could correct it and he took decisive action to do just that.

I don't disagree, but I would like to hear Dabo say that he messed up by putting Streeter in an untenable position.

Now maybe he won't say that publicly, but I hope he recognizes it and does what is necessary to help Streeter (& family) land on their feet.

Coaches understand the position they are in. If the job isn't getting done they don’t get to keep on trying and by the way he was an OC prior to Clemson and called plays. He was treated fair and will be paid for his contract. He will land on his feet with no problem . Play calling sucked and recruiting suffered under his coaching. Having a great running back and only giving him a few runs in one half don’t make a good play caller

Losing wasn't fair to Clemson nation.... if he wasn't ready he should not have taken the job.

If he wasn’t ready - the job should not have been offered to him.

JPF,

Coach asked Brandon to take the job - and Brandon tried to step up and do his best.

I think expecting him to turn down such a position is asking too much.

I don't think that everything is as it appears. Are you more surprised that he fired Streeter or that he already had another hire in place? There is absolutely no way that Dabo goes behind Streeter's back, hires Riley, and then fires Streeter.

My guess is that Streeter and Dabo had a difference of opinion and they mutually agreed on Streeter leaving. Maybe Streeter felt like Dabo was too involved and Dabo wasn't willing to back off. Maybe Dabo wanted some offensive change that Streeter was not on board with.

If the truth comes out, then I will be surprised if it is not a mutual parting of ways to a large extent. Regardless, there is no question in my mind that Streeter has been out the door a couple of days. Since he has said nothing, I don't think that he was simply fired.

Or maybe over the course of the season, Dabo and Streeter discussed the situation and came to a mutual agreement that Street was in over his head. Both professionals played their cards close to the vest until the end of the season, including TCU’s season, and here we are.

bareftn,

I agree that Brandon has probably known for a few days. That does not mean that it was a mutual parting of the ways. Dabo could have just walked into Streeter's office and told him they were going to make a change - just to give him a heads up.

Street Dr was given a shot.

Jan 12, 2023, 6:56 PM

It didn’t work out, and even though I’m sure he is upset right now I’d be willing to bet Streeter is still happy to have been given a shot.

I like Streeter but it was obvious he was in over his head. Going away from the run when it was working multiple times showed that. There seemed to be little to no adjusting to the flow of the game with the play calls. Street needs to go to a lower division and get some more experience as an OC

How do you measure fair in a game that in order to win, has to instantly replace their most dedicated starters if there is anyone you can bring in who holds the slightest edge? It’s either upgrade or fall out of the picture. The same applies to coaches.

We own him 1.85M which is the remainder on his contract. Even though it may be negotiated down, that may help to soften the outcome.

Perform or perish ...

Welcome to the corporate world - but with a $1.85M buyout most would accept happily for average performance. Win-win. What's best for the team? No remorse. Moving on. Welcome Riley!

Look, I get it. I feel for Streeter because he was a Clemson man and was not given the greatest arsenal to work with on his first year as OC. But when players are relieved we are getting somebody new, that says a lot. CFB is still a business and this was a business decision.
