Dabo vs. Danny

Oct 4, 2016, 9:56 PM

Danny finished with: 96-29-4
Dabo is at 80-27-0

Throwing out the ties do you think Dabo wI'll beat Dannys record in The next 18 games, he would need to at least go 16-2.

I think it is very possible! What do you think.....

Tough, but possible.

I honestly don't see why not

Gonna get 9 more this year.

Then we go 11-1 or 10-2 next year.

I do not like comparing coaches from different eras like this. Different conference altogether now than it was decades ago.

Normally I agree but Danny played in a tough era

Oct 4, 2016, 10:07 PM

of the ACC much like Dabo has. The only difference is Dabo is getting and extra 1 or 2 games per year but I would argue that the quality of opponents during the 2 eras is similar, thus the comparison is fair IMO.

Something to consider - I think Dabo had a much bigger job of changing the culture from 10 years of a Bowden mentality and that accounted for a lot of his losses in his first several years. I think Danny walked into a situation where a culture of mental and physical toughness already existed - Dabo did not have that luxury and it took some time to build the toughness and winning attitude we have today.

If Dabo can sustain the level of success of the past several years and continues to have Clemson compete for championships (conference and national), I think he will go down as one of Clemson's greatest football coaches - if not the greatest Clemson football coach of all time.

Agree 100%

Dabo had to get the program back to the toughness that Danny had instilled throughout his tenure.

Bring that question up when Dabo wins the National Championship.
That's what I think!

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Technically, Dabo only has to go 15-3

Oct 4, 2016, 10:37 PM

Ties aren't thrown out, they are considered half a win and half a loss.

Danny's win % at 96-29-4 is 0.75969

If Dabo goes 15-3, his overall record would be 95-30 which is 0.76000

I'd still bet on Danny after 125, but Dabo will have the most wins in Clemson history before he is done.

Danny was great, but I think Dabo is a better coach.

Oct 4, 2016, 10:52 PM

We are a more well-rounded football team now than we were in the 80s. I would argue that we play a more difficult schedule now as well. But Danny won it all, and that counts for a lot. I expect Dabo to join him in that category very soon.

It is hard to make a direct comparison though, because the game has changed so much. Players are bigger, stronger, and faster now. Schemes and philosophies are more complex. Apples and oranges.

I do think it is doable, but we can never let down, and coaches must never get complacent.

Regardless of record or NCs won/lost,

Oct 5, 2016, 12:24 AM

Dabo is this program's best coach. We've had some good ones, I know. But not one of them has balanced the relationships with board, administration, coaches, players, and fans the way Dabo has.
Love Danny and always will, but I'm thankful to live in what will be remembered as THE golden age of Clemson Football.

And yes, I believe he will better the record - and maybe even win the NC.
