Tavien Feaster - 2017 Starting RB?

Jan 21, 2017, 11:32 AM

Will a healthy Feaster rotate with Fuller and Choice or just take over the position in the first few games?

Rotation early in the season for sure

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I agree, but...

Jan 21, 2017, 12:29 PM

I hope Feaster can start creating separation.

I feel Feaster's upside is alot higher.

Feaster

Jan 21, 2017, 1:10 PM

Just my opinion, but I see the coaches really driving that home with him.
I am sure they have already, but it will be a constant reminder through out
the spring.
HUGE opportunity for him- and I don't think he's as far off as many would
have you believe.
If he's READY to be COACHED UP...'
he can be great!

Feaster better worked hard and bring come spring because CJ is going to be hard to deny.
Fuller is going to have a monster season next year.

Re: Tavien Feaster - 2017 Starting RB?

Jan 21, 2017, 11:59 AM

It will and should be RB by committee next year. Fuller has waited patiently and deserves more carries next year. Overall, I think our RB production may slightly improve. I think we did have a tendency to over work Gallman at times last year.

Re: Tavien Feaster - 2017 Starting RB?

Jan 21, 2017, 12:08 PM

there we go agsain> your statement that Fuller "deservers more carries"next year is absolute bs. If he wins the job and earns them he does. But fact is he deserves nothing. P;laying time needs to be earned. Your welcome.

If he continue to make the most of his playing time, he will continue to see the field.

If Feaster has learned to pass block by the 1st game, I think he has a great yr barring injury. Kid can run and I expect him to see openings better in yr 2.

If we depend on Fuller, we are hurting. Choice will be the back until they turn it over to Feaster. Fuller played because every one else (including Gallman had injuries) Love his efforts , just not a back that can carry a team.

I can see CJ Fuller developing the same way Gallaman developed in his early days at Clemson. He is getting a feel for this college game.

Yep he knows this Offense and the more he plays the better he gets.
He will be our old reliable next season , I can see him having 800 yards rushing and over 400 receiving.

Pretty sure CJ will be the starter.... Tavien will come in as a back up. He better use this spring and summer to learn how to pass protect

Fuller will and will be a star.***

Good short yardage back and good hands. Reminds me of Zax Brooks.

Quite sure he's NOT the next big thing. Nothing supports that, IMO.

Zack Brooks was one of the fastest guys on the team.

Jan 21, 2017, 1:03 PM

Fuller is more of a hammer - a Reggie Merriweather.

They are both excellent receivers.

And FWIW I've really liked what I've seen from Fuller

Jan 21, 2017, 12:04 PM

He made a couple of fantastic catches on wheel routes (SC, OSU games) and, while he might not be elite in any one area, he seems to have a nice blend of power, speed, and vision.

Bigger version of Rod McDowell.***

Renfrow wasn't considered elite. But his production on the field has definitely counted.

Renfrow is an elite possession receiver with tremendous hands.

Jan 21, 2017, 1:59 PM [ in reply to CJ is going to be the starter until he's unseated.*** ]

Unseated from what. CJ is the backup running back. Wayne was the starter. CJ has never been the starter and the message going into spring will not be, "CJ is the starter by default." Coaches will be saying "Wayne is outa here, who's gonna come and get this starting job?"

Re: Tavien Feaster - 2017 Starting RB?

Jan 21, 2017, 12:28 PM

IMO, his upside is alot higher than Fuller and Choice.
Folks wanna talk about how he isn't playing at full speed yet.
But they don't realize 70% of Feaster has been better than 100%
of all the other backs. He was 2nd on the team in yards-At RB.
And number #1 at yards per carry. IF they, the coaches...can count
on him in protection. His upside is alot higher. Hopefully he can
also make a move on special teams too.

Re: Tavien Feaster - 2017 Starting RB?

FWIW Feaster needs to learn to run with authority. If he did that he would be Beaster instead of Feaster.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Tavien Feaster - 2017 Starting RB?

Jan 21, 2017, 12:31 PM

I think Feaster and Fuller will be the next "thunder and lightning". I know Fuller came on at the end and had more meaningful snaps and proved himself. I think that's great! I also believe Feaster will show flashes of greatness more and more next year. With a whole off-season to get more familiar with the system and get stronger. His speed and explosiveness will be hard to deny. Whether it was mop up time or not. Feaster still had 10 more rushing yards on the season on 10 less carries. That has to weigh in somewhere. Bottom line I believe with Feaster, Fuller and choice. We will be just fine next season.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Here's the thing with Feaster.

Jan 21, 2017, 12:52 PM

If you want a RB that will consistently pick up tough yards between the tackles, move the pile, and break a lot of arm tackles, then Feaster is not your guy. If you want a RB that can overcome poor run blocking or defenses designed to stop the run, then Feaster is not your guy.

The fact is, none of our RBs really fit that mold or will thrive under those conditions, but Feaster probably least of all. Gallman made the most of those situations, but Feaster is a very different runner. I can see it now - Feaster will get 3 or 4 rushing attempts, there will be no real hole, he will get hit at the line and be stopped for no gain, and immediately some will say he just doesn't run hard enough, he needs more time in the weight room, he's hesitating, he's dancing, he's not hitting the hole, and so on and blah blah blah.

The thing with Feaster is, in my very humble opinion, he is much more likely than any other RB we have to take that 5th carry, make a guy miss or find a crease, and take it for 10 yards or 20 yards, or take it to the house. Personally, I'd like to see him get the touches that will be required, understanding he will have a lot of short/no-gainers, to give him the opportunities to bust some long ones. In that regard, he's the closest thing we've had to Spiller since Spiller.

So yes, I think he will be in the rotation; the talent is there. How much he plays will depend on how patient coaches are with him, and how well Fuller and Choice respond to their opportunities. If Feaster does show a little toughness and resiliency, he could win the job outright.

Gallman is Gone

Jan 21, 2017, 1:57 PM

Wayne Train is gone, so the message to our RB's will be that there is a starting spot up for the taking. It won't matter who the 2nd teamer was this year. There is going to be a heck of a battle through the spring. Feaster just happens to have something the others do not, near world class speed. I really like Fuller and Choice, but Feaster's ceiling is much, much higher. I still think Feaster wins the number 1 spot and catapults himself into national prominence, but Fuller and Choice (or at least one of them) will have a significant role.

Blocking by the Rbs will opening of opportunities for a successful passing game which open up opportunities for a successful Runningback. Learning to block and keeping your Qb upright, will be blessing our own running game. They will be only helping themselves with there productions.
