Don't you remember, and I'm sure that you do, when libtards dressed up as "ANTIFA warriors" and mostly peaceful BLM protestors and set cities on fire?

That wasn't the libtard's fault for aiding and abetting. No, that was Trump's America, because he was, you know, President at the time.

If Texas was unprepared, it was 100% totally Biden's fault.

Or maybe Texas listened to the stupid climate Nazi's at NOAA back in October when they told everyone that it was going to be a warmer than normal winter in Texas. Because, of course they predicted that.

Are you failing to argue this poorly? Bringing BLM or Antifa into the discussion is weaksauce.

You can drive past wind farms in Wisconsin right now that are still working with worse weather than Texas. Plus they still have power.

This is a long-time-in-the-making fail by Texas. Hopefully this is only a 1-in-100 year storm and they won't deal with it again. Also hope the politicians get their heads out of their bums and figure out ways to alleviate the pain of their citizens.

Do better.

I am not against anyone having the ability to go to a warm place when your home is in an area where it’s snowing and the temp is very cold. I also guess that are literally thousands of folks who live there who could do the same thing if they do desired. I think our elected officials get criticized for most everything they do or don’t do. My opinion this isn’t a thing they need to get criticized about. If he was the only one with the privilege of going to cancun I also would criticize him but he isn’t. Any one with the funds can also go and get away from the cold weather. Jealousy is not a reason to bash anyone

I do agree that people need vacations and i am also sure he's had this planned for months.

That being said, he also diverted a police escort, in the middle of the worst part of the power and other issues, to escort him from his home to the plane to ensure he made it.

To me that's the egregious part. Ted should just man up, pull himself by his boot straps and get his butt to the airport like everyone else instead of using resources which could be saving elderly people stuck in homes with no power, water or accessible food.

I really don't care that he is leaving TX to go to Mexico. If Governor Abbott left, that would be more of an issue. Cruz's explanation seems lame though. He says his girls and some friends wanted to get away, so he flew down with them and is flying right back to TX. Looks like damage control to me. So, if I am to understand him, he felt the need to fly down to Mexico with his daughters and friends in a perfectly safe, self contained aircraft, only to fly back to Texas, leaving the girls free to roam Cancun?

Seems like a bogus excuse to me. If not, I don't understand Cruz's need to take a less than 90 minute flight from Houston to Cancun to keep them safe from what -a peanut allergy, a support animal and then say adios, enjoy Cancun?

I like a lot of his political views, but have never liked him. I met him once and he just really gives off a weird vibe.

Huh...snowflakes say if they go through it everyone should? Not sure I agree. Pretty sure that is just bitter folks in general.

I do think this is blown out of proportion because as other have already said, if you have the means to leave then go - no reason to stay. Similar to when hurricanes roll in on our side of the country.

On the contrary (I haven't read into it) if he used tax payer money to accomplish getting out of town, then yeah that's definitely a PoS move

Ain't his fault folks in texas listened to the green Democrats and screwed up their power grid. Ted is oil, coal, and natural gas. Those windmills and solar panels for Democrat written all over them. Tell me again how it's Teds fault.
Democrats are freaking geniuses. California can't even keep the power on in the summer time. Have rolling blackouts because grid is underpowered. Now they want to go all electric cars. Genuine brilliance.

Natural has makes up over 50% of the Texas energy fuel source (makes since since gas is an oil product). "Green" energy makes up under 1/4 of their options. If you have been west of the Texas Triangle, they have a lot of open sunny, windblown land for those things. Even then, wind only contibutes 23% and they only lost 13% of the capacity.... but wind lost is contributing to 3% of their fuel availability. Actually Wind has been even producing over its normal peak of 7K megawatts (been at 4-8MW) while NG is at a 30,000MW shortfall.

Next, tell me again how "fuel type" affects distribution challenges - which is the reason for the power outages? Their natural gas distribution is cooting thing up as demand tapped out the NG network. Fuel type does not affect the transmission and distribution network taken out by ice/trees. By their count, the "ice" shut down the nuclear and coal powerplant distribution was well. The biggest issue has been their 50%+ natural gas and that system distribution line is tapped out. If anything, diversifying the fuel source is what is keeping everything from being worse. My things isn't that NG is "bad" but the more you diversify, the less risk you have on supply shortages completely cooting thing up

But this is Texas being texas too... if they linked with other energy providers they would not have this issues (or at least as much).

I get my power from Oconee, Hartwell as well as my NG powerplant. Power can cross state lines, other lines, not so much.

Texas power outages happened because they lost their wind and most of the solar. The grid went into mass blackout because it went under powered. The wind and solar were all that failed.

One nuclear reactor and several coal-fired plants went offline, but "Texas is a gas state," Michael Webber, an energy resources professor at the University of Texas, told The Texas Tribune. And "gas is failing in the most spectacular fashion right now." Instruments and other components at gas-fired power plants iced over, and "by some estimates, nearly half of the state's natural gas production has screeched to a halt due to the extremely low temperatures," as electric pumps lost power and uninsulated pipelines and gas wells froze, the Tribune reports.

Don't you watch the news? The "green power" is not responsible for the outages. The gas well heads froze and the pipes at the coal power plants also froze due to the lack of winterization. Some wind mills were still operational. Due to no state regulation and Texas choosing to have it's own power grit and not connect to other grids they couldn't roll electricity in from surrounding grids. So much for Texas independence.

I worked for Cruz’s campaign in 2016. This is not a good look no matter what party. For the past several days, many of his constituents have gone without power, heat, and water in below freezing temperatures. Texas is in a crisis mode right now and he took off to Cancun with his family to sit on a beach. Politicians have become more like royalty than representatives of a Republic. Americans need to call out these politicians on both sides of the aisle and quit with the “what aboutism” and ### for tat BS.

The optics are bad, but thats really the only harm. The reality is that he does not serve in an executive role in TX, he’s a US senator. Him staying home or being in Tahiti makes no actual difference in the outcome, other than giving opponents political fodder. If it were a governor or mayor (anyone who has responsibilities around mobilizing relief efforts) that skipped town, that would be a different story.

As far as actual root cause problem fixing, yes TX not being connected to a larger national or regional grid and not having adequate winterization of critical power infrastructure is a problem... one that will likely need to be remedied after the snow settles. I would hope and fully expect Senator Cruz to take part in those discussions in subsequent weeks and months.

I retired from a utiltity that changed to open market sale of electricity instead of guaranteed rate of return and after customers started buying electricity from other companies because electrical outages were common, we fixed it. We replaced pole transformers, switchyard transformers and equipment, underground cables, cut trees and vegetation around lines and so forth all for about $3 Billion. Guess what - no more
outages, great PR, and significantly increased income. The failing electrical systems/infrastructure is on the Utilities, Public Utilities Commision and the Governor.

Ted Cruz can go where he wants and so would I. Call me cold (no pun intended) but instead of wasting gas to get warm sitting in a car in the driveway or garage, the Texans should have been driving to Arizona. It may have been slow going for a while but better than carbon monixide poisoning.
