Taliban related question...

Aug 16, 2021, 11:40 AM

Can you ever really get rid of #### roaches? I think so for a few months then I realize my efforts were not 100% effective when I begin seeing the occasional rascal. I smush them on-sight for a while then SWMBO declares war and my destructive efforts ($ & time) are exponentially increased.

Maybe we need to have that as our Taliban expectation? Smart munitions being our level of investment routinely for terrorist management with boots on the ground only when necessary for colony control. Repeat as necessary. Throw away the dream of Afgans ever becoming our exterminator. Their own human rights weren't motivating enough for them.

Release a Chinese virus on them. Avoid civilian areas. This would have a devastating effect on them because they don't have the medical supplies available.

The real question was why was the ANA so unwilling to fight?

I'd wager the vast majority of Tnet have not, so please throw us a bone. Apathy, cowardice, what?

Tribalism. There are over 14 different ethnic and linguistic groups over there: Pashtun, Tajik, Hazara, Uzbek, Aimaq, Turkmen, Baloch, Pashai, Nuristani, Gujjar, Arab, Brahui, Qizilbash, Pamiri, Kyrgyz, Sadat and others.

Hard to find common ground and a common cause worth fighting for.

Layer in massive corruption and the drug trade, and there you have it.

Not a good recipe for nation building either there or anywhere else in the region.

Our forces were keeping those roaches hiding in those those Afghanistan mountains, and as long as they were there, they couldn't do much harm to anybody. But I really believe we should have strengthen our economy by building an insane amount of those bunker buster bombs, and started to level those mountains to get to those roaches where they were living. We may not have gotten to them all, but we could have I believe, thinned them out enough to where the Afgan military could have defended themselves. Plus!!!

We should have made a deal with the Afghanistan people to build permanent combat bases over there, and then we would have a permanent place to stage an offensive if needed, to wart off anyone in that region that wanted to do harm to the US, and our allies in that region. I mean right their in Pakistan is a terrorist breeding ground, and we could have kept them in check right there with our friends in Afghanistan.

We could have closed bases in other countries where their neighbors aren't quite the threat to us in the USA, as the terrorist going unchecked in Afghanistan, and Pakistan as of right now. IMO, letting go of Afghanistan with what is happening now, and with the terrorist operating freely in Pakistan, it has put our own country in grave danger. And I think that our leaders had to be brain dead not to recognize the threat they have put our civilians, in our country in. I really don't think I would be taking a risk of flying, boarding a train, or going to any packed sports venues anytime in the near future bc, those radical extremist hasn't, nor will they be forgetting the extreme Hate they have for the USA!!!!

I think we should stay completely out of Afghanistan unless its a possibly drone strike on a specific known terrorist. Other than that we shouldn't be there. We lost 2500 Americans over there and another 20k were injured. Big waste of time and life.

I was there in 2012

Aug 16, 2021, 12:51 PM

This has been going on for 20 yrs. nothing would have been different if we waited another five more yrs to leave. As stated above lots of tribes fighting against each other, and working with one another. They have had to deal with their version of cancel culture for 20 yrs. they want it back like it used to be. If you were born 20 yrs ago you have had a nice life in Afghan. But the chit is about to hit the roof especially for women. I hate to think of the mass migration of people leaving that country. I foresee famine as well. I hope I am wrong in my future prediction of that chithole.

absolutely no idea how hard life is in Afghanistan.

Things we take for granted here in the US do not exist over there. Little things like nice roads, landscaping, reliable power, quality running water, and internet.

Life is hard over there. Really hard. They have good and bad people, just like we do. The major difference is life is REALLY easy in the US-especially when compared to Afghanistan.

Example: Need food? We just hop in a car and go grab some fast food or visit a nice, air conditioned name brand supermarket. If you live in Afghanistan, not so much...

Agree with other posters in various threads that we should have taken care of business and left town, or built an enduring base there for continuous use. This withdrawal is an absolute train wreck. It seems as if the military leadership was not given time to develop a decent plan.

Not really surprised at how fast the Taliban moved back in given the circumstances. Those are some tough SOBs.
