Tailgate DirecTV help.

I'm looking for a good step-by-step guide on how to setup the DirecTV dish at the tailgate and how to find the satellite. I have tried YouTube, used the documentation that came along with my tripod setup, and googled my brains out and can't find a clear cut step-by-step guide (in layman's terms) on how to successfully find the bird.
Any advice from veteran tailgaters is appreciated!

stands in front of tv and hollers at guy moving dish when sig strength goes over 90. After years of doing it, we are usually right on it when we set it up.

R U after HD or regular DirecTV reception? The DirecTV site has a pointing guide where you enter your zip code and get bearing points. HD is much harder to set up. Free apps on phone may be helpful.

It seemed to work at first, but later it started pointed me in the complete opposite location. Any other app recommendations?

find the spot it gets easier every time. I'd suggest just looking at a neighbors and go from there.
Things you need:
1. Generator
2. Coax wires
3. HDMI cables
4. drop cord
5. power strip
6. some type of stand for your dish
and your Directv box. You should be good to go. Assuming you don't forget the TV.

...and couldn't find satellite 101 (well, only 3 of the 32 transponders). I just didn't know if there was something a novice, like myself, would that a pro would know.

mount off level. Frequently we have to lower the back leg of the tripod because of how heavy the HD dish is.

Notice the pole is plumb (perfectly vertical, set with a level).
Notice the part that fastens around the pole is plumb. This is critical for setting the elevation (upward tilt) of the dish.
If you want to mount your dish on the side of a house or something then you'll need the short arm that comes with the dish. Mount the bracket on the side of "whatever," and tilt the mounting bracket's arm to make it possible to get the short end of the arm vertical. The simplest way to do this is with a small level. A glass of water setting on top of the arm will also work. If the water is level then the arm is perfectly vertical. That's the way the Athenians did it.
When you get your mounting assembly vertical the indicator on the side of the disk will give you a true reading. I think the elevation is 45 degrees in Pickens County.

the weight of the dish pulls that pole slightly forward. Thus you might have to lower the back leg or level it once the dish is on the pole. A level pole at the tailgate is a good start, but if you do that before placing the dish on...you'll be searching all day.

If you figure it out and need more practice come to my house and help me point mine. I ended up tilting it up more than supposed to and got tuner 1 up to 97% but still no picture and half the transponder says 0.

Will one deep cycle marine battery run the SAT TV set up (receiver/32" LED TV) for at least 5 hours?

I use an Optima Blue Top battery but there are much less expensive options that will work just fine. I also bring an extra battery just to be on the safe side but the battery I use powers my receiver and television for 8+ hours with no problems. I've never had to use the spare battery.

It connects to the terminals on the battery with two battery clamps. Then you simply plug the TV and the satellite reeiver into the outlets on the inverter.
The inverter converts the batteries DC power into the AC power that the TV and the receiver use.
I purchased a 750 watt inverter from Sam's or Batteries Plus (I can't remember which) for less than $30.00. I als have a 1250 watt inverter
As with the battery, I always take an extra inverter just in case one fails. While I have never had a problem with my battery, I have had an inverter fail on me a time or two.

years but prefer the generator because I don't have to charge the batt the night before. Plus, it never lasted till the end (5 hours before game, hangers on watching during game, and 2 hours after game)

The battery is the most important component of the whole system IMO which is why I would not recommend cutting corners and buying a cheap battery.
Yes you have to remember to re-charge the battery but to me, that is a better option than having to carry gasoline.

Seems I remember it's at asmuth ~101 (degrees from true north) and somewhere around 45 elevation as read on the side of the dish's mounting arm.
Mound the dish. (get close as you can to 101 degrees)
Set the elevation.
Rotate the dish while watching the meter displayed on your TV
You'll be shooting for above 95% signal. 100% isn't worth the time and trouble.
