Sure looks like TL got royally screwed by going to the Jags

Feb 3, 2022, 9:44 PM

worse than we thought. Shad Khan would screw up a wet dream. Leftwich withdrew his name. Hope it doesn't end up being Doug Pederson.

Re: Sure looks like TL got royally screwed by going to the Jags

Feb 3, 2022, 10:12 PM

He didn't go to the Jags! The Jags picked him # 1 and if they didn't the Jets would have taken him at # 2.So pick your poison!

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

He didn’t go to the jags in the draft?

Feb 3, 2022, 11:43 PM

Weird

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

He didn't really have a choice. The Jags had the first.....

Feb 4, 2022, 9:29 AM

pic and they chose him. The Jags have been good in the past so hopefully will become good again.

I'm just glad he didn't get chosen by the Lions somehow - now THAT would be a death sentence for his NFL career for sure!!!!

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

well, when he declared he knew where he was going. So he did

Feb 4, 2022, 12:09 PM

kind of choose to go the Jags.

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

A player always has a choice. Both Bo Jackson and John Elway

Feb 4, 2022, 12:21 PM [ in reply to He didn't really have a choice. The Jags had the first..... ]

proved that years ago. As did Eli Manning.

Butt, to have that clout, you actually have to be willing to walk away from those millions of dollars, and force the team's hand. Not many are willing to do that.

Feb 3, 2022, 10:15 PM

It will work. This has been done. The Pats used to sucks. The Colts use to suck. We have seen this before, TL will be a winner. It will be interesting to see if in JAX.

Are you new to sports? There is a reason that team has the #1 pick, they s$$k. The only way Trevor got screwed is if he a long line at his bank where they call him Mr. Lawrence.

Feb 3, 2022, 11:45 PM

Do you feel better now?

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I feel ok for TL. #1 spot in draft means he and his family

Feb 4, 2022, 12:29 AM

are set financially for life! Football payday, anyway.

Re: I feel ok for TL. #1 spot in draft means he and his family

Feb 4, 2022, 12:36 AM

With another # 1 pick and the Return of Etienne, TL will be much better
off as the team rebuilds. If I recall, Elway and Manning had to endure a
rough few first Years.

Re: I feel ok for TL. #1 spot in draft means he and his family

Feb 4, 2022, 3:39 PM

ETN will be huge when he gets back. As good as Robinson is they need a pass catching back with their lack of WR and TE.

He probably could’ve got the same amount in NIL if he had come back for his senior year…. And he would still go to the Jags this year ??

Feb 4, 2022, 1:36 AM

Bill O'Brien would be worse than Pederson. What is latest Baalke GM situation?

TL16 will definitely need help fixing this situation (crap ownership, GM and team), and Leftwich and a new GM would have been 2 steps in the right direction. I would say TL16's future is uncertain but by no means doomed.

I think Pederson is a good choice. And, I think TL will do well under him. Wait and see.

He (Pederson) is their choice. Leftwich made too many demands; fire their GM and bring in AZ’s. Not my preferred choice but 1000x better than Myer and much better than Bill O’Brien. At least offensively, a good choice.

What if a QB were EXEMPT from the draft selection process?

Feb 4, 2022, 6:10 AM

Just my observation, but considering the following:

- The QB position is so overwhelmingly critical to the offensive execution.
- The extreme vulnerability of the position to injury based upon quality of the offensive linemen, and…
- The career ending nature of subsequent injury from poor protection, particularly while the rookie QB is adapting to the higher caliber of play at the NFL level.

How many times have we seen 1st round QB picks get put on a BAD NFL team, get killed during their first year in the league, get injured, statistics in the dump, end up trying to recover, expectations drop, fans/management/coaching/media become soured on the player, he gets traded as worn out equipment after recovery, has to spend years trying to make a comeback on the new team who “gave him a chance”, etc. etc…

The whole process of what the NFL draft selection does to a 1st round QB CRITICAL ASSET MAKES ZERO SENSE! ZERO SENSE.

My initial reaction is that incoming rookie QBs should be EXEMPT from the NFL draft selection process and are essentially FREE AGENTS in choosing their team.

The NFL teams that are at the top of the heap will always have a TOP TALENT QB. These teams may already be at their salary cap, and so the incoming rookie QBs would not make a difference on their roster. Even if a good NFL team went after the great incoming rookie QB, then the free agency process protects the interest of the QB both financially AND with respect to his surrounding team talent.

Additionally, you would NOT have NFL teams “tanking” at the end of the year in order to get that 1st pick of the draft to get the next Trevor Lawrence.

I know it seems that this puts the rookie QB into some sort of “prima donna” type of category with respect to the other draftees, but for reasons that I stated initially, the QB position cannot be treated with the same weighting considering the nature of the NFL game.

I’ve held this position on QB drafting in the NFL for many years, and I just cannot see a downside to this type of draft process for the QB position.

Feb 4, 2022, 6:59 AM

Or the lousy team with the WunderQB could just not 'start' that QB the first year. Limited playing time until he and the team are ready. That might work.

Can you name 5 qbs in the last 10 years that would fit what you’re saying about having their career derailed because they’re getting killed every game?

Tua, Manziel, Robert Griffith come to mind.

I have only ever heard of one of those potential coaches…

Feb 4, 2022, 7:47 AM

and he was the QB at Louisville about 2 years ago.

ESPN is reporting that Jacksonville has hired Pederson

Feb 4, 2022, 8:17 AM

While his win/loss record at Philly was just slightly above .500, he did make three playoff appearances in five seasons an managed to beat New England in Super Bowl LII.

Not sure what I think of this hire.

Re: Sure looks like TL got royally screwed by going to the Jags

Feb 4, 2022, 8:18 AM

Why does everyone assume Byron Leftwich, becoming a first year head coach is the answer for TL16? Is it because Leftwich got to coach Tom Brady, Rob Gronkowski, RB combo of Leonard Fournette and Ronald Jones II, WR's Mike Evans, Chris Godwin, and the handful of games A.Brown dominated before the real AB showed up? There were other skill players on their depth chart that would easily get more PT for other franchises as well.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Clemson doesn't care about basketball....as evidenced by Brown-L getting 14 years.

i never did. I think it would be chaotic for at least 2 yrs

Feb 4, 2022, 9:04 AM

Trevor needs a guy who knows what/how an NFL team is supposed to operate. Not another newby.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I think its a good hire for Jacksonville. He's an NFL guy

Feb 4, 2022, 9:02 AM

who took an ok (in terms of past champions) philly team to a super bowl and won it. He got ousted at philly after a bad year where Jalen Hurts was a rookie and inconsistent and apparently that pissed off the front office so much that they kicked him to the curb. I guess philly thought they were the 49ers of the 80's. He's def better than Urban. We shall see i guess.
