In the middle picture, the faux half-timbered building on the left was a Capri's Italian restaurant. And next to it, if I remember correctly, was a couple bars: The Book Store downstairs and the Study Hall upstairs. Is that right? (I remember going to the Study Hall in '74, but I'm not sure about the Book Store. That was a bar too, wasn't it?) It was a long, long time ago.

My best friend and long time buddy graduated Clemson, in 1977 --- he would get all his spending money checks from "mom & dad", cashed,at either the ""Book Store or Study Hall"" ( yes both were bars** ) -- I remember his mom told me often how well my buddy was doing at Clemson, because he spent so much time at the book store and in study hall ****** ________________ till the day she died, she never knew**

If people were as good as their obituary - and products were as good as advertised - this would truly be a wonderful world !!

Was Martin's Drug Store still there then?

It was there in the fifties and sixties, when I was there.

The Red Carpet (pool tables, $$ pinball and a sticky carpet) died after a Biker (motorcyclist) shot a Clemson student in the butt with a pistol, while standing at a urinal in the restroom (current kitchen). The Bikers were there to shoot pool, and park their Hawgs in the alley, but not to have a student talk to one of their biker girls. Lester Moore (Lester’s Tiger Den owner) opened Tiger Town Tavern, free cover with Student ID, $5 for others and $1 Bud pitchers. Often BOGO Free to draw crowds of students 50 cent pitchers! Drinking age was 18, and the place was packed every night, no more bikers either. So successful they took over the Pizza Hut space too, and continues to this day. Lester (RIP) started a true landmark in Clemson.

Long before Tripple T's and The Red Carpet the building had

a huge eight lane slot car race track in the sixties. There was a window on the back wall where the track had a high bank, the owner would encourage the kids to try and send their slot cars through the window awarding them an hour free race time on the track. Little did we know that it was just a ploy for the owner to sell us another car after we totally destroyed our car by hitting the concrete wall!

Clemson, what great place to grow up and graduate from!

Hr name is thankfully lost to the sands of time, but during my time at Clemson, there was a female cheerleader who could be found passed out in the Red Carpet Lounge most football Saturday nights. (no permanent lights at the Valley back then, so almost all games were 1-1:30 pm starts. And, the legal drinking age was 18. Good times!) :)
