To blindly support local police departments and then hate and distrust the FBI.
The government is going to turn those local police against you just as quickly as they will the FBI. More likely, in fact.

FBI is national police. Becoming Stasi-esque.
Defunding local police is among the innumerable absurdly stupid initiatives of Democrat politicians. Too bad that all of those artsy-fartsy people moved to Asheville. They’ll probably relocate to some other nice Southern town and ruin that one.

I love Western NC. I avoid Asheville. I still tell the newbies to the QC how great Asheville is. It's kind of like a buffer for the rest of Western NC.

I love that area. My dad lived in Fletcher for awhile. I actually prefer Hendersonville to Ashville, though...I can only take so much crunchy-granola before I want to punch a dirty hippie and that troubadour-on-every-corner thing and the constant haze of bong smoke on the streets Ashville does gets really old after the first twenty minutes or so. Also, the restaurants and shops are just stupidly overpriced in Ashville. Which is a shame; they didn't use to be.
Stuff just seems a lot realer in Hendersonville.

Asheville has become a little too Asheville. I've had the good fortune to do some traveling, and Western NC is still one of my favorite places in the world. Love some of those sleepy little towns on the French Broad.

Totally agree...that area's amazing. We're not the only ones who noticed; they actually filmed The Peripheral - which is one of the biggest-budget (and best, it's awesome) new shows on TV and is based on a novel from the father of Cyberpunk, William Gibson - right up the river in Marshall. No joke. Check out the trailer and see if it looks kinda...familiar.

I grew up there and 30 years ago it was dead, boarded up, sketchy, prostitution areas and zero for a family with kids to do for an evening.
Now, it’s the complete opposite. You can spew whatever you want about crime, but the attention and population boom has more to do with crime than the leadership. Just stop.
Asheville has always been weird and a magnet for LGBTQ folks and loners and weirdos. None of that has changed and that is fine by me.

The weirdo stuff just seems a little contrived now. I'll take Black Mountain over Asheville any day.

They will never say that “we’re good”. Asheville, Austin, Chattanooga, soon to be Greenville, etc. all prospered with a balance of conservative values and liberal arts. But liberals are never satisfied with equilibrium; they must invade/infect/destroy, everything they touch.

it comes to justice reform. It's what BLM got so fundamentally wrong, even slapping the hands of people who were like, "Oh they don't really want to defund the police; it's just hyperbole for the sake of catchy rhetoric." No. They genuinely wanted to defund the police. But you still have to have police, and we see what happens from Portland to Asheville (taking you guys at your word it's as bad as it sounds) when you overly tie the hands of police.
We need accountability for bad policing (which covers several reforms). We need to limit some of the more unchecked policing powers (e.g. no-knock warrants). And, some reforms like ending cash bail are good -- up to a certain point.
I don't think that somebody should spend a year in prison waiting for trial because they can't afford $100 bail. But I also think that if you get your "get out of jail free card" and commit another property/violent crime while waiting on trial, you're back in the slammer and your bail is much more than $100 now. It's this last point that has turned some localities into a revolving door until eventually these folks get their day in court.

no, we look at facts and statistics before running at the mouth about what the angry guy on TV just told us.
Hint, if your news guy is angry, or there is a number at the bottom of the screen, it is not news.
hth.
