Student tickets are a privilege

Oct 9, 2017, 7:12 PM

They are free...FREE. According to the Greenville News,"Clemson is the only Division One football playing school that provides free student tickets to our student body- that is no student fee and not ticket sales," said Joe Gailbraith, the associate athletic director of communications. Maybe it's time to start charging students for their tickets. Good example of the endowment effect.

Charge a student ticket fee for season tickets and credit their account when they use their ticket.
ex: $150 for season ticket/7 home games = $21.42 credit each game attended. Since the University does not charge students, the money made from unused tickets could go towards Clemson Fund, student organizations, etc.

They pay an activity fee with tuition.

But I get what you're saying

There's something in these hills.

I was about to say, my student loan debt begs to differ. Free sounds all nice and happy, but every month when I write a check I can tell you without equivocation that there was nothing free about my Clemson experience.

Worth every single cent, but not free.

Pretty sure the activity fee doesn't cover tickets

at least not directly. I know they're getting paid for somewhere within the itemized cost of tuition.

My tuition has gone up $150-300 a year

That I've been here.

Try and tell me my tickets are free, LOL.

Athletic dept receives ZERO from student's tuition***

Soooo, because students pay tuition

Oct 9, 2017, 11:11 PM

FOR AN EDUCATION, then they should receive something for free? Huh?

military_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

An education that has inflated in price

Oct 9, 2017, 11:21 PM

With an over $8,000 increase in 15 years?

I don't know the solution to the problem and I'm not going to act like I do, but just because none of the inflation cost of an education doesn't go to the athletic department doesn't mean that we don't pay for it.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

That's exactly what it means

Clemson only gets about 10% of it's funding from the state. Maybe that's a good place to start...higher education cuts = tuition increase.

No.

Oct 9, 2017, 11:35 PM [ in reply to Soooo, because students pay tuition ]

I'm saying that Clemson is the only D1 school (according to the article) that does not charge students for football tickets. My point is they are getting them free and if they're not going to use them, they should have to pay an athletic fee or lose their right to a ticket.

From a students perspective who doesn't skip games

There needs to be a point system assessed with the ticket and ID.

Your I'd doesn't get scanned and you had a ticket, -1.

Rack up to -2, banned for 1-3 games.

Get to -4, loss of ticket privileges for season and big games the next year until you go to enough Furmans etc till you're back at -2.

Just my .02 cents
