Strateragy for blocking robocalls?

Feb 7, 2019, 7:50 AM

I've started getting a lot of calls from other cities in Va where I don't know anybody. They don't leave a message. I think they're those robocalls that spoof a local number. Also get repeated calls from the same number, about the same time of day. I usually block these after several days of that.

If this works, I owe you a beer or 12. I probably get

10 calls a day on my new cell phone.

Nevermind, I'm not signing up for some monthly service that

may or may not work and may block other people.

However, I did add my number to the DONOTCALL directory yesterday.

I just verified that I was on the list.

They tell me that I put my number on there in 2003. Fat lot of good that has done. The only calls I ever get are spam.

Android has a feature that will automatically block

Feb 7, 2019, 8:10 AM

calls that Google has identified as potential spam. I enabled it recently and it changed everything.

I don't know if this is native to Pixel 3 or firmware, or if it's a native part of the latest Android version. But it's quite nice.

it's part of the OS, i believe, and year it's teh allsum

I've got the OG Pixel....so, maybe it's limited to Pixels, but I don't think so

One simple, cheap act and it's over forever.

Drop the cotdamp cell phone in a bucket of water. I just canceled the service but the bucket trick is good if you're a weak person.

None of those handle the ones that spoof a local number -

Usually the same area code and prefix as your phone. Those are the ones that #### me off the most. Freaking cock-sucking sons-of-bitches.

Anything 803-422 that is NOT my wife's number

Feb 7, 2019, 8:37 AM

gets blocked. There's a new one each day though.

I've narrowed your wife's phone number down to one of

1000 possible numbers.

10,000 but who's counting***

Feb 7, 2019, 10:45 AM

I have more information that I'm letting on.

ok, fine...10,000

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

You start at 803-422-9999 and work down.

Feb 7, 2019, 1:18 PM

I'll start at 803-422-0000 and work up.

We'll meet in the middle.

Then, after we get in touch with her, we'll meat in the middle.

A couple weeks ago i started answering and immediately muting my phone. Sarah with the cruise you won is waiting to hear someone speak (or other noise) to begin her automated spiel. The autodialer will assume this is a data line and will remove it from their call list.

They must share these "dead" lines with others in the industry periodically because after a week or so of doing this i have been getting significantly fewer calls over all.

using screen call from Google Pixel 2

Feb 7, 2019, 11:51 AM

it's fun!

Cat on a tin roof, dogs in a pile,
Nothin' left to do but smile, smile, smile!!!!

Problem is mentioned above.

The hijacked numbers. A guy called me asking what I called about. Told him someone probably hijacked my number and called from it because I did not call. I have called them back before and the guy on the other end was as confused as I was at first.

Neat thing is, we actually got to talking a little bit and talked about what we did for a living. Found out he works in the industry that I do consulting for. Made a contact and now I have a potential client thanks to that robo call.

TLDR - A guy called back after my number was hijacked and we whispered sweet nothings in each other's ears.
