Story from 1977 game

Sep 28, 2015, 12:53 PM

Don't know it's been posted or not.

1977 was the Notre Dame / USC green jersey game they say propelled Notre Dame to the national championship. Dan Devine (Notre Dame head coach) called Charlie Pell and asked if he would agree to wear white jerseys so Notre Dame could wear green jerseys. Pell told him to go pound sand.

The best team lost that day. However, the best team beat themselves by committing so many critical turnovers. This was great to watch, but I was really disappointed that the video didn't show Dan Devine on the field stopping the game (yes, stopping the game) in the fourth quarter when we were driving for the winning score.
