Stop the Insanity

(with apologies to the crazy infomercial chick with the spiked hair)
Let's review, a team from Idaho is in the Big EAST conference? Clemson and FSU are contemplating leaving the ATLANTIC Coast Conference to play in a Southwestern league? This whole realignment business has spun out of control.
We should call on the Presidents of these universities to stop this craziness and fix conference alignment for good. I propose an 8 conference league that is regionally organized with 12 teams per league. That's 96 D-1 teams which means some of the mid-major schools that are serious about football have the chance to ante up and play with the big boys. An eight team playoff is simple to fit in this plan, seeding the teams after all the conference championships, effectively creating a 16-team playoff. It also keeps some regionality in the conferences and just plain makes sense. There is still plenty of TV money out there for all the conferences to make.
Seems like an easy fix to this simpleton. I know this, the college presidents need to take back control of their schools and lets get this thing fixed.

You start working on that plan

In the meantime we'll try to keep Clemson relevant with how things are shaking out in 2012.

How about letting the free market decide?

If you can make more money somewhere else despite prohibitive travel costs then go.
The idea of forcing teams into 8 12-team conferences that are regionally based is the true insanity. Who decides what teams go where? Who decides tho makes the cut of the 96 teams? What happens to the other teams that get left out?
Your idea also isn't fair to teams like Boise State who have excellent football programs and aren't geographically near any other football programs that are worth a crap.

There are 11 FBS Conferences, It Is Written ...

Let there be a playoff ....
Winner of Each Conference automatically goes to the playoff....
Let there be 5 "at large" bids for teams that did not win their conference but are deemed worthy, determined by a council of very wise men (and women too because it is politically correct)
Let us determine who plays who in the first round by our already full proof ranking system
Let these games be played at Neutral Sites. These Neutral sites are our already fine Bowl Sites, like everybody's favorite, The Pinstripe Bowl in lovely NYC
It is written, let it be done.
PS Teams that did make the playoff but are still "pretty good" can still play in a Bowl game that is not being used for the playoffs, gives people something to keep an eye on during those cold winter months.

In what way is this a market and how is it free? I see a lot of government and/or non-profit institution employees colluding to stifle market competition.
