Movie Review Winter's Bone 2010:

There are so many great movies released in the last 20 years that I haven't seen. When you're raising kids the last 20 years, the edgy gritty movies coming out take a backseat.

Winter's Bone was nominated for four Oscars, including Best Actress for at the time, 20 yr old Jennifer Lawrence, best picture, and Best Supporting Actor, John Hawkes.

The setting is the rural Ozarks in Missouri, an area where employment is dominated by meth labs. The main story is Lawrence' search for her father who didn't show for his court date following an arrest for cooking meth. He had put his house up as bond, and when he doesn't show, the family is faced with being homeless.

Great acting by the cast of 10 or 12, and good story.

Stellar film.

Absolutely stellar in every respect. Saw this not long after it came out and it made me want to read as many Daniel Woodrell novels as I could get my hands on. His novel Woe To Live On was adapted into the film Ride With The Devil. Another good watch if you you haven't already.
