Stars doesn't mean nothing!

I played HS football with a couple great players, ALL from the upstate. None of them received an offer from Clemson, 2 of them went on unofficial visits the 2011 season. Thomas Brown is currently at Furman playing football 1 is currently a senior in HS. My senior year my teammate Chris Robinson had over 2,500 yards rushing and broke the state record in TDs. Which was held by Marcus Lattimore, He didnt get looked at by ClemsoN. My other teammate Dorian(who is a senior this year) had over 1,500 reciving yards this year and 15 TDs. No scholarship offer from Clemson or nothing! He's headed to North Greenville or App State. And my other teammate Trae Earle who is about to enroll at GA Military College was a stud CB. They offered Marty Williams over him, which was a mistake Cus he wasnt even eligble. What Im saying is, starts dont mean nothing! There always is gonna be talent around here. We dont have to get the biggest fish in the pond. I would take all 4 athletes if I was coaching at Clemson.

High school stats mean nothing...
Jan 27, 2013, 1:02 PM
|

They are not looking for the best players in high school they are looking for the best high school to college potential. Who we see on the field is totally different from how a player can adapt to the game, I do agree that stars are everything but to gauge the players they have to have some kind of meter. Besides it makes it fun for message boards.

And you say high school stats mean nothing? So you telling me a coach will take a play that went 56-121 300 yards over a player who went 276-500 over 2,000 yards and 25 plus TDs, you my friend are a idoit if you think HS stats mean nothing. Now shut your pie hole!

Based on your comment you actually do care some since there is still some care that can be further reduced.

you said "you could careless", which makes no sense at all, other than you are careless.
You could care less means you do care. The phrase is "could not care less", which means you do not care.

But I would submit that success at the next level has more to do with how a school develops players rather than how many stars they carried with them on day one.

Your subject line and your post disagree w/ one another.

Your subject line says that stars do not mean nothing... which of course implies they mean something.
Then your actual post seems to be making the point that stars are not important.

The old double negative argument.....good call. I agree stars don't mean everything but if a 5 star fits your system you want him. Most 5stars are rated on potential at the next level. While not an exact science it is a failly good measuring stick. They don't account for work ethic and character and that can be just as important.

Did you not learn in school that a dbl negative creates a positive?
You said "Stars doesn't mean nothing!"..doesn't is a negative as is nothing. So what you actually said was stars mean something. With that said, had you said "stars doesn't mean anything" you would have been a litte bit correct. It should read 'stars don't mean anything".
Does that make "since" to you?

We all went to D1 camps, even myself. GA Tech is 1 and we went to a Clemson camp our junior year. Im not the one who choose players to hand a schollie to. Maybe we got overlooked. Moral of this WHOLE post is stars dont mean anything when there is always an athlete puttin up stats and gets overlooked. And going to a D1 school doesnt mean nothing either, we're all in college playin football, 1 is on his way to college. I bet we all are doing #### better then you!

I have long held to the supposition that there are a number
Jan 28, 2013, 5:44 AM

of fine, capable athletes that are overlooked nationally for various reasons, and I believe this is true in all sports. The recruiting business, thus, becomes a matter of coaches asking themselves the question: "Have we explored all possibilities?" I would think sheer numbers would preclude that, even considering the number of schools in the hunt. Thus, it becomes important for the athletes and their families and coaches to be pro-active, which, unfortunately, just doesn't happen. One remedy, which I've seen even here on TNet, is for people to forward names of possible prospects to the schools whereby the staffs can follow through, should they desire. And if the athlete is deemed capable, then the star rating system won't matter.
