Spurrier is now officially Tommy Bowden

Jan 2, 2014, 8:54 AM

Wins tons of "state championships" with little hardware that matters to show for it (only non-BCS bowl trophies, no conference championships). Difference is at Clemson that eventually gets you fired, but at USC you are their greatest coach of all time. Brag about it all you want Steve, y'all earned all five of those Hardees' trophies.

Please, this fan base is beginning to look foolish. Spurrier is a great coach and has turned the coots around. Bowden never won 11 games three times in a row nor did he ever beat his arch-rival five times in a row. Spurrier and the coots are turning this board daffy.

TB didn't win 5 in a row, but he did win 4in a row, so the comparison is apropos... even though it isn't necessarily an absolute mirror image...

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Not really though. Right now, South Carolina is as good

Jan 2, 2014, 4:16 PM

as they have ever been. Bowden won all of his against teams that were the equivalent of dog food. Luckily they aren't quite good enough to keep from having a head scrather of a loss even when the schedule sets up nice for them to win the East.

With that post you are calling someone else daffy. Mercy!!***

Stressing the word "literally," even though they are not being literal at all. WHY NOT JUST SAY "I COULD EAT A HORSE" AND LEAVE THE LITERALLY OUT OF IT? WHAT IS WRONG WITH PEOPLE?!?!?!?!?! AAAAAAAAAAAAAARGGGGGGGHHHH!!!!!!!!!!

You ARE technically correct, but vernacular use of "literally" has rendered your assertion invalid, for all intents and purposes.

"Literally" can literally be used to mean "exactly or according to definition" or an interjection that implies an acknowledged hyperbolic claim in the forthcoming proposition.

HTH.

Whatever........LOL!***

TB averaged 8 wins a yr and never got over that hump

Jan 2, 2014, 9:10 AM

Spurrier may not have won an SEC title but he has infinitely more division titles (literally!) and he's 33-6 the last 3 seasons. Tommy's best three year stretch was 25-13 and his best four year run was 32-18.

People always have to make it a literal vs. consonants thing.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I see, "Hasn't won anything" or "Nothing to show for it"

Jan 2, 2014, 1:40 PM

all the time

I'm just curious, what do the Tigers have to show from the BCS era?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

How about...

Jan 2, 2014, 3:58 PM

a conference championship and 2 BCS bowls?

and while that may not be as good as a handful of other teams, Clemson didn't have to go out and buy rings for each team member celebrating a fifth place finish---nor, I trust, would they ever.

You guys need to buy some Lemon Pledge and dust up that trophy case.....7 bowl wins in the history of the program. Darned impressive.

Re: How about...

Jan 2, 2014, 4:56 PM

A solid list of players now contributing in the NFL as well. (which is the goal of most players)

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

So 2011 is what CU is hanging over coots heads?

Jan 2, 2014, 9:14 PM [ in reply to How about... ]

Of course, if you win this year's OB then that is great, we will know tomorrow night. It should be a good game but I think both scar and Tigers got tough draws. Wisc run game was rough and Miller presents issues.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: So 2011 is what CU is hanging over coots heads?

Jan 2, 2014, 11:42 PM

Ohio State's entire running game will likely present issues. (especially if they are able to control the time of possession and keep Clemson's offense on the sideline)

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I think they also need to send that 60's ACC championship

Jan 2, 2014, 11:49 PM [ in reply to How about... ]

banner to the cleaners. Be careful though it might have rotted, lol.

Jan 2, 2014, 2:56 PM

So Tommy Bowden won 33 games in 3 years huh?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

You're correct....

Jan 2, 2014, 4:00 PM

and Tommy Bowden didn't have to earn an NCAA Probation along with his wins

2024 purple level memberbadge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

so with all this being said, many fans are still displeased

Jan 2, 2014, 4:10 PM

with Dabo...
yet other than beating the coots & slurrier only 1 of 6 times, we've accomplished more than in the last 35 years & more than the coots & Slurrier, but we aren't satisfied.
and we really shouldn't be because we have everything in place to want more.

i love our high expectations & we should want the best.
we shouldn't settle for only beating our in-state rivals like the coots, & i see a very high ceiling for us if we continue our climb & don't get distracted by things that don't really make a huge difference other than personally because we hate USuCk so much.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Jan 2, 2014, 5:07 PM

Why do you let Spurrier get under your skin? He is known for this; Free Shoes U, Can't spell Citrus without UT,etc. You guys have a big advantage in wins against us and a National Championship. By the way, you can't spell Citrus without USC.

Re: Spurrier is now officially Tommy Bowden

Jan 2, 2014, 9:23 PM

This post is full ree-tard. Spurrier has won 11 games three years in a row.

Tommy Bowden never won more than 9 games here and played against some pretty weak competition.

Sorry but I would trade places with the coots the last 5 seasons in a heartbeat. Owning your rival, winning 10+games and winning bowl games is pretty appealing to me.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

More like Tommy is Jimmy, and Steve is his brother Billy
