Spurrier floating idea of moving rivalry games
May 30, 2012, 3:37 PM
|
|
Just heard on sports radio that Spurrier will be talking to Georgia and Florida folks at the SEC meetings this week about moving rivalry games to earlier in the season. Apparently the idea has some support from TV folks; since there are so many pitiful OOC games early in the year, it will allow for scheduling games of more interest earlier in the season.
I would think any school that may find itself in a conference championship game, which all 6 of those ACC and SEC schools could, might prefer an easier OOC game before the championship game. I think those 6 schools are the only 6 of the two conferences that play a tough OOC game at the end of the year. Might not be a bad idea.

the same Dbag that after winning all his division games last year, wants to change how the division is won..guess he thinks his team will be in that situation a lot more in the future. Good luck with that.

And Clemson needs to put it to BED, let it be known

Clemson WILL NOT CHANGE THE DATE
the only thing I would consider in a date change is to move the game up one (1) week to get it off Thanksgiving weekend
then have two weeks to get ready for the ACCCG when they actually win their division again.

I would be okay with it being the first game of the year.. or staying as the last game... but not lost in the middle of the schedule. It needs to be first or last. If it is first, it would kind of be like how NASCAR has the daytona 500 to start the year then the rest of the season is about the championship. I could deal with that.

NO- true rival games are played at the end of the year, do
May 30, 2012, 6:03 PM
|
|
you see Auburn/Bama, Oka/Oka ST, Oregon/Oregon St, UCLA/USC
I can get on going, but do you see any true rival game played that are not played at the end of the year
play at the end, when you have had time for all the young guys to learn, to improve, to give you something to look forward to seeing all year
Clemson WILL NOT be playing in the ACCCG each year, it just won't happen, so who then or what then do we look forward to in Nov.??? A game with Duke, VA or Kan. or TT just don't get it.
Don't change for the sake of SS or USC. Clemson is 50% of this and Clemson needs to say NO, this game is played at the end of the year. In a few years SS will be gone and we don't want to contineue to be doing thing that SS and USC wanted and wanted for their best Interest and Not for Clemson's best interest.

owe ESPN a great game at the beginning of the year
NO one remembers those early games, it's all about how you end up and who playing who in Nov. that gets the attention of the national media and fans

for many years that final game was all the Gamecocks had to play for a little pride.
Can't imagine playing that game to start the year.
It just ain't natural.
