Absurd ... unless you just don't want a QB in the Top-10

Jun 3, 2014, 9:03 PM

Steve Fuller is still the most complete QB to ever put on a Tiger uniform. Big, strong, fast, smart, good arm, great leadership ability ... a winner.

Fuller was a great player. He would be killer in Morris' s offense. Could run like the wind. Big arm. Great decision maker. Fuller took Clemson from always bad to a legitimate top ten program.
He played a long time ago, but he was very very good.

Super Bowl. Any other CU qbs in that community?

Juat because a guy played since you were in high school and threw 35 times a games doesnt make him 'best evar'.

I'm old enough to have seen every one of them play except

Banks and I think the list is pretty spot on. I've said for years that Jeff Davis and Terry Kinard are the two most pure football players I've ever seen with a Paw on their helmet. Davis was the most instinctive LB we've ever had and Terry Kinard was the most complete DB we've ever had. I think M. D. Perry was a better DL than his brother, though he played DE most of the time and Fridge was at DT. I don't have a beef with this list though I am still amazed at how many Tiger fans continue to overlook old #99 Jeff Bryant on any lists. The guy was probably one of the top three DT's we've ever had, started all four years, a Clemson HOFer, 1st rounder for Seattle, played 12 years in the NFL, and played all 4 DL positions....a complete quiet beast who I'd start on any all time Tiger team on any position on the DL. He'd be added to this list if it were up to me. Keith Adams would be another I'd squeeze on here along with Anthony Simmons. Goodness the defensive talent we've run through DV over the years...staggering. Anyone who downplays Fuller obviously didn't see #4 play. A pure athlete and leader who was tougher than hell and was good enough of a passer to play a long time in the NFL. He, along with Jerry Butler, and the defense, put Clemson on the map.

was a hoss.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

you ain't kidding, man....easily the most overlooked Tiger

Jun 3, 2014, 11:25 PM

great ever, at least in the last 30 years or so. That guy lived in the backfield and played all four DL positions. I remember my Pop pointing out to me how Bryant lined up in different spots on virtually ever play. He saved the NC against the Tar Holes by falling on the lateral....the most heads up play in Tiger history.

I helped the writer come up with the list.

We agreed on most of them and actually talked about taking Dawkins off the list (he was obviously great, but others had better college careers) but in the end, he is one of the most well-known Clemson NFL guys so we left him on there.

He wanted to put Tajh on the list, but I told him that Steve Fuller was the better quarterback (and many widely believed Fuller to be the best at Clemson all-time). Told him that as good as Tajh was numbers wise, he never beat USC.

Only player we couldn't fit on there that we really wanted to was Jerry Butler.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Agree, if just considering careers while at Clemson, Dawkins

Jun 3, 2014, 11:16 PM

does not belong on the list. He wound up being much better as a pro than anybody ever expected, and really came into his own in the NFL.

Jerry Butler HAS to make the list ahead of Tuttle (no

disrespect to Perry), and Anthony Simmons was the best LB we ever had (again, no disrespect to Levon and The Judge).

Obviously Sammy Watkins would belong on the list if players that recent were meant to be included.

agree with you on Butler over Tuttle

Jun 3, 2014, 11:20 PM

but have to differ with you on Simmons over The Judge...I'd take Davis slightly over Simmons but Anthony to me is a close number 2. Davis's leadership ability sets him apart to me.

military_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Yeah - I think Simmons was the best but a case can surely be

made for JD. And you're right, he was a great leader.
