Bouleware, Skalski, …?

Nov 25, 2021, 9:32 AM

Who’s next?
It was great to have Skalski mentor a year under Big Ben. I don’t see a clear handoff to the next person.

I think Kane Patterson could be really good. Plus it's a 1 inch increase in height from Ben to Jamie to Kane :) Another who could be great is Jeremiah Trotter Jr.

I was thinking Trotter Jr. Ashamed he didn't get the reps I was thinking he would. Same with Kane. Don't know for certain, but I'd say JT has a faster closing speed that Skalski and hopefully better in drop back coverage. Too bad Jake couldn't come back for one year.

Where's LaVonta fit in? He needs to see the field every snap.

As long as CBV is coaching and patrolling the sidelines, we are in good hands.

Don't forget Spenser Shuey before them. He created a few

"Hurtin' Buckaroos" against Ohio State in one of Urban Meyer's most significant losses.

Absolutely! We were really blessed with 8-10 years of having an intelligent defensive QB with a Pitt bull mentality in that position.

domino dave, you nailed it as far as the 'intangible' values that S.Shuey, B.Boulware, and J.Skalski (also B.Spector) brought to the defense. Although both Shuey and Boulware did not possess the speed to play LB in the NFL (and although Skalski is faster than B.B. or S.S., he also may not possess the speed to play LB in the NFL), they all knew the Clemson D very well; they knew where everyone on the defense was supposed to play and where each defender should go when the play was underway.

We will not know until next year whether K.Patterson or J.Trotter have acquired a big part of Skalski's knowledge. What makes it even more challenging for KP or JT is that the OTHER QB of the defense (Safety Nolan Turner) will also be gone next year. The burden on the LBs to be 'QB of the defense' will be amplified next year.
