But there's not love between me and Omar. Imo, if she's going to be defending radical islamic terrorist she should fear white men, white women, black men and women and most Islamic people as well.

What confuses me is that she chooses to live in a nation which is predominately white. Is she planning on putting all of us in jail or what?

Funny thing is, I don’t see a post from a lib or dumbocrat condemning her of he actions. If it were Trump that had said those things they’d be rioting in the street and calling for his head on a stick.

Most of us dont like her and already think she is extreme, but also realize she is of little importance. She doesnt represent my area. She is more of a novelty for the far right to demonize all of the left. If Trump said the same things it would matter. He represents all of us.

She is an “elected official” of the people. Why isn’t anyone calling for her resignation?

Who knows? She isnt my representative, so I don't care. I guess the people she represents like her. I think she sucks, but not my prob.

SHE. HAS. NO. POWER.

She is one - repeat (1)! - representative from a district that is heavily Somali. Representation being what it is - send one of your number to Congress that they may speak for the rest - isn't just desirable but necessary...at least, if you're going to be a representative democracy.

Keep in mind Minnesota welcomed so many Somalis back in the day mostly because Sun Belt migration - the pull to warmer climes from the North over the last two decades - was draining colder northern states dry in terms of workforce. Yeah, it was a "nice liberal" thing to do, but the real reason was, like it or not, Minneapolis/St. Paul needed the bodies.

Show me another 25 or 30 districts in the country that will elect a black Muslim and I might start worrying about how much Sharia-law influence might be foisted upon us but right now I just can't see it. And in any event I get the idea Omar is too much into power to really get into strict interpretation of Sharia law anyhow, since Sharia law states plainly that women are property of either their husbands or fathers. She doesn't seem to agree.

Do I like her? Not really. I get the idea she's calculating, cold, and has that knives-in-the-dark sinister Machiovellian vibe going, whereas I don't get that read off, say, Rashaida Tlaib, who mostly just comes across as pretty typical blunt-as-eff Urban Detroit Yankee if you can get past the headscarf. (Keep in mind I was born in Michigan, I know the type very well, they're basically Boston, just even more pessimistic.)

And like it or not, Omar is correct about needing to fear white men. She plainly states the reason - that there's a strong undercurrent of white supremacist radicalization getting pulled into the mainstream, and when you're a person of color in the USA and there's five white people for every one of you, that's something to be deathly afraid of.

Is anybody seriously arguing with that here? See things from her perspective for a second; it's not a hard thing to understand.

I personally find her perspective useful even if when I don't agree with it...which in Omar's case, is most of the time. But keep in mind we were kind of caught aghast that people hated us as much as they did until those planes slammed into the towers back on 9/11. What on Earth had we done, anyhow? What Omar - and Tlaib, who is of Palestinian descent - provide us (if we are willing to listen, anyhow) is access into the brain-space of people from other religions and other cultures so Just Maybe that won't happen again. And that's really the great strength of our form of government.

Do I want the Squad running the country, mind? Nope. But are they entitled a vote and are useful for their perspective? Absolutely yes...and the reality is, that's as far as they're likely to ever get because their views are simply not palatable to enough Americans. They're going to have to reach across and find common cause before that happens; right now they're being gadflies. But ardent gadflies are where new ideas (and solutions) so often come from, as well.

Repeating the same statement doesn't change anything.

From the indie perspective, Omar isn't wrong, though she certainly could have - and should have - made her point better. She should have just said: "what we should fear is the radicalization of white men" (as she did in her second sentence), instead of the more incendiary "what we should fear is white men" with no qualifier that she led with.

Two very different statements, and the first one was basically a troll statement akin to the ones Trump makes. And of course she did it on purpose...which is one of several reasons I don't like Omar. We have too many trolls on either side of the aisle already.

The reason most just shrug is because she did walk back the initial (deliberately provocative) statement she opened with and qualify it - which Trump never does - and she's just one representative among 437, represents one particular district, and she's never going to get herself elected to anything bigger if she keeps saying stupid, provocative, and (yes) racist things like that.
