Remember Pay-Per-View CU/SC Games @ Littlejohn?

Nov 19, 2018, 4:05 PM

Late '70s, before lots of TV games & plenty of sports channels - used to go see CU/SC games (in alternate years when game would be in Cootlumbia) in Littlejohn.

It was a "Pay-Per-View" kind of experience. A big screen set up with big sound & Jim Phillip's radio play-by-play piped in. Big raucus crowd in there, going nuts! Almost like being @ the game. I think the price was about $10. For the day, it was pretty cool. My brothers & I went to 2 of those, I think.

Fun times! Anybody experience one of those?

Not only do I remember those games, but I remember going to the 'John to watch the Tigers play Maryland. That was a nasty rivalry for a short time. And you're right, it was loud and then some! Thanks for that memory! Let's go Tigers!

Speaking of Little John & the Maryland Game...

Was that the one @ College Park where - seems like - Dwight Clark might have caught one for about 80, a TD & the ACC Crown!

I actually watched the 1984 Coot game in Carolina

Coliseum with a Coot friend. He #### near died at the end, but unfortunately the Coots held on. But, we softened them up enough that Okla St ended "Black Magic" in the Gator Bowl.

and 81 South Carolina. I think the first game at Littlejohn was North Carolina 78 because the first upper deck at Memorial Stadiums was not finished on time. Fortunately I had a ticket for that game. Great times and memories at Littlejohn, especially finishing 11-0 in 81 against South Carolina.
