This is what people do when they are shilling for a dollar on their dying network.

Louisiana Tech
Furman
Georgia Tech

Like it or not - they were garbage games. We need to schedule more P5 competition for out of conference games if we want more Media attention.

Georgia scheduled Oregon and Alabama scheduled Texas (and nearly lost).

I totally agree but that message needs to be conveyed to our Athletic Director or who schedules these games. DRad was mostly responsible for this I imagine.

If anything matters less than the half-time score, it is ESPN predictions this early in the season. ESPN is always in love with the SEC and Big 10. USC is a sexy school to pick, but none of it matters. If we take care of business, we will get into the playoffs. If we are undefeated, we will be in. If we lose one, who knows. If we lose two, we will not get in. But that is reality; ESPN rankings at this point are fantasies.

Your post means nothing other than the fact that they think Clemson loses 1+ games this year.

Would love to see how boring all media would be if zero predictions were ever made. None from ESPN, CBS, Fox or even Tigernet (who has not predicted a loss to an opponent since 2014)

I wouldn't necessarily say we control our own destiny. What about this scenario?

13-0 UGA
12-1 Alabama (honestly, these teams could be 2 loss and will still be in)
undefeated or one loss Ohio State
Undefeated USC
12-1 Texas or Oklahoma
13-0 Clemson

I know it always resolves itself. But in that scenario, I think Clemson gets left out. I think all five of those teams would get in over an undefeated Clemson, because our schedule is complete garbage this year and I'm not sure we'll get the same benefit of the doubt after our last couple playoff appearances. We were really counting on a top matchup with Notre Dame to strengthen our schedule.

We go through this every year this early in the season though. Always works itself out for the most part. I don’t disagree with a 6-8 ranking for this team right now based on what I have seen and what other teams are doing. USC looks very good and is taking care of business. UGA looks incredible right now. Bama is beatable. OSU is good as well. And Michigan is kicking tail.

Going to be fun to watch as always.

Surprised OU didn't move ahead to #5 in the AP poll. Looking at their remaining schedule if the Sooners can get by Texas BV may be looking at an undefeated season and playoff appearance in first season.

power rankings and the poll rankings. They are into the part of their schedule now where they play four straight "States". They already beat the State of Fresno :), and now they have the States of Oregon, Arizona, and Washington all in a row.

They will be favored to win just about every game they play. Utah and Notre Dame looked like problems before the season started, but both of those have already shown they are not up to the preseason hype. Lincoln Riley may have walked into the perfect situation to be successful right out of the gate.

Agreed. Southern Cal is just Oklahoma of the past few years. Very good offense, terrible defense. But the Pac-12 sets up really well for them, with their biggest threat not on their schedule until the conference championship. Everyone likes to say "win out and we'll be in" but the schedule sets out really well for a bunch of teams to be undefeated or one-loss (UGA/Bama can both have a loss, Oklahoma could be undefeated if they beat Texas, if not Texas will have a win over Oklahoma and a close loss to Alabama without their starting QB where they outplayed Bama, Ohio State will probably go undefeated, and then USC).

We may be the 6th best team at the moment. The key is can we have a chance to prove that we are the best team in January. I think that we have an excellent chance to gel over the next 3 plus months and do just that.

Typical bs. Bama gets a gift from unranked Texas and drops 1. We do what we're supposed to and drop one. Granted we have issues, but ###### man. Bet Notre Dame moves up 10 spots on the new rankings. And the fish eaters will also get a 25 year extension on NBC for their efforts. Typical bs.

No way in hell are we #6 right now. Here are where we stand statistically.

Offense:

Scoring: #26
Yards: #63
Yards per play: #69
Passing: #76
Rushing: #57
Yards per rush: #43

Defense:

Scoring: #23
Yards: #35
Yards per play: #35
Passing: #86
Rushing: #8
Yards per rush: #10

We're not top 6 in any stat, and we are only elite in rushing defense. Our opponents have been 1-2 GT (who just got dominated worse by Ole Miss than we did), Furman (who just had a struggle win against East Tennessee State), and 1-2 Louisiana Tech (who lost in nearly identical fashion to Missou). That's good for #121 in the country in strength of schedule.

Can we be a top 10 team? Maybe. From 2014-2020, we had slow starts, but we did it behind good offensive lines that could give our skill players a chance to gel. Our offensive line is absolutely terrible (and the blame is on the scheme more than the players) this year, so they have to gel despite getting overpowered in the trenches. It's possible though. But right now, I don't see any way you can look at product on the field and say Clemson would beat: Georgia, Alabama, Ohio State, Texas, USC, Oklahoma, or Michigan at the moment. I don't know about Arkansas, Oklahoma State, and Kentucky yet.
