South Carolina without Edwards

Dec 2, 2019, 12:37 PM

I personally think Edwards is a very good receiver. Who knows where he'd rank among our guys, but I personally think he would've been in the NFL draft after last year with the exposure of our offense. That's not the point of this post though.

Their offense is facing a lot of issues next year without him unless some other guys step up big time. They played the last two games of the season without him against A&M and Clemson. In those two games they scored zero touchdowns, a combined 9 points, and gained a combined 434 yards while being held under 300 yards in both games, and under 200 yards against Clemson.

His 40 time will drop him way down in the draft. Going into the USC game Tee Higgins had 31 less receptions but only 16 less yards. Edwards wouldn’t start at Clemson.

He is not a burner, but he has great size. Very similar to NUK, but bigger. Both he and NUK will never be known for speed, but good route runners and physical receivers with good hands.

He might not start because we have Higgins and Ross

but he would get plenty of PT at Clemson.

I think that's more to do with the way they play offense than it does with his speed. They have a freshman quarterback, and a line that can't protect long enough to run many deep routes. He averaged nearly 4 yards more per catch last year than he has this year.

He's not the fastest guy in the world, but I've never had the thought of him being slow while watching him play. You also have to remember that he doesn't have Trevor Lawrence throwing him the ball, ETN opening things up with the running game, and receivers like Ross and Rogers for the defense to account for in addition to him.

I'm not saying he's as good as Higgins or Ross, but he'd be in our rotation of guys without a doubt IMO. You also have to consider how much better he'd look if he had 4 years with our coaches in our offensive system instead of what he had instead.
