South Carolina parents fighting back!

My main question is, when people keep saying X number of people have Covid, is that based on a PCR test or do they have symptoms? Because a positive PCR test, if you understand how the PCR test works, does not mean you have Covid. And if you have a positive PCR test but don’t know how many cycles it took to get that positive and you are not showing symptoms you do not have Covid.

But the immediate problem is whether we’re even going to have school and how.
We will never fix our schools as long as the Democrats and the teachers unions are in control. They are the ones that destroyed schools.

And another person criticizing me with no data.

What did I say that is BS?
Why am I getting wrong?
Show me data. Show me data from a government source or a credible source that proves anything I have ever posted incorrect regarding Covid. I dare you!
Not opinion. Real data. You people think I am so full of BS and I’m so far off the reservation it should be easy to prove me wrong. Yet no one has done that. All you do is attack me. You don’t post one shred of evidence or data that contradicts anything I have posted.

I'm afraid there is so much fear out there now, mandatory masks will be forthcoming, closely followed by virtual school and more government sponsored shutdowns. I'm just surprised it didn't happen a week before school started back instead of a week after school began. The children will be the ones who suffer the most, and I truly hate it for them. And yes, my family and I have all been vaccinated.

and the main recommendation is to just get vaccinated. He said they were seeing about 88% of their hospitalizations as unvaccinated folk.
Obviously, if you're "healthy" and under 30, you are at extremely little risk.
He said the problem is the 60 year olds who think they're healthy, but they're actually not. Just because you can still cut the grass doesn't mean you've got a ton of stamina.
If you're 60 and rocking it out at Orange Theory, then you're prob good to go. Biggest risk factor is obesity. But Obesity in South Carolina means "a little over weight" to most of us.

You can have covid with no symptoms
Aug 19, 2021, 3:17 PM

And test positive, on a PCR test. I will explain why. The reason is covid tricks our immune system. That's why it's still around. It is a virus unlike any other in one very important way. Upon infection (when covid enters your body and binds to a cell), the very first thing it does is it depressesses the production of interferons. Interferons are the part of our immune system that seeks out and identifies viruses. Interferons then call up other cells, antibodies, to fight the specific infection. It is a two-stage approach our bodies mount to fight a virus. Interferons are our first line of defense.
While covid suppresses interferons, it is also replicating inside of you rapidly. Your highest viral load, and when you shed and spread the most virus, is before you have symptoms. Specifically 1-3 days before. That is due to the suppression of interferons. So, your body does not know you're sick or infected. But you are. And you will not know (get symptoms) until your body finally recognizes it is infected. Each variant that has come along and become more transmissible, had done it in large part by further suppressing interferons. The longer/more they are suppressed, the higher your viral load, the more you spread it before having symptoms. The incubation period is 4 days longer with the delta variant because of this.
It is also why fully vaccinated people spread delta JUST AS MUCH as unvaccinated people. Without interferons to call up your vaccine-induced antibodies, without knowing they're NEEDED, those 1-3 days before you get symptoms you get just as infected and shed just as much virus. Now over time your body learns of the infection, and at that time, if you're vaccinated, your antibodies are quickly called up, and take care of the infection. So you get sick, but not very sick. Younger people also have more interferons than older people. So their level of suppression is less, they recognize the virus earlier, and catch and spread it less. That's changed somewhat with delta, but still holds true. And it's this catch-up that your immune system has to do that kills people. Your body goes from not knowing there is an infection, to seeing a massive infection, and it overreacts. Plus, since it is a novel virus, if your body hasn't seen covid before, then sees a massive infection, the immune system overreacts, and the inflammation caused by that is actually what kills you. Your own immune system. And that's also why it takes so long to get symptoms, then so long WITH symptoms, to get hospitalized.
Depending on your timing, the PCR test can spot your infection before you ever know it or have any symptoms. This is why they say wait 5 days from a known exposure to get tested. It takes a while for the virus to establish itself. The PCR test is calibrated to detect a level of virus where you are capable of spreading it. They can crank it up and everyone is infected. They can lower it and few are. But if you test positive, you can assume you were capable of spreading it.
This suppression of interferons is much more pronounced in covid than any other virus, and initial replication is faster as well. So you start off behind the ball, and some people never catch up.

Teacher Unions!
Aug 19, 2021, 3:30 PM
|
|
I'm just getting ahead of the "teacher union" rhetoric. SC does NOT have a teacher union. You think teachers would get treated like they do if there was a union in this state?
Let's stop making teachers the scapegoat. Think about the teachers you personally know. Most are fine Christian people. Most in SC are conservatives. They are your neighbors and church friends. They read this tinfoil hat garbage and it just kicks them even more when this state has abused them for decades.
Rant over.
