Any of your old heads got pro tips for lowering LDL?

6

May 18, 2023, 8:44 AM

APM had his annual PCP visit this week.

Good news is, blood pressure, weight, etc. are all good. As is PSA (although my doc told me PSA is not the preferred test for prostate anymore - I was all like, is this dude angling to go digital on me?) and all my other #s.

Except for LDL (bad cholesterol). Dat sh*t just keeps creeping up. Not turrbull right now and doc said no need for a statin, but this sh*t is what eventually took Diddy PAW at a young 77 and APM would like to have a few more years than that. APM gotta see Greece for one thing.

My good cholesterol is low too. And I eat the hail outta some avocados, almonds, salmon, etc.

Oatmeal is about all I know that I don't regularly take in.

Y'all got any wisdom for APM?

Pepper yo angus for the eventual meds. Heredity is a biotch. That said, keep eating good and getting yer extrasize.

Yeah. Nothing worked for me, had to go with a little statin.***

I seldom eat red meat. I drink no more than 1-2x/week.

May 18, 2023, 9:17 AM

And don't drink at all some weeks.

And exercise a lot.

*sigh*

I have borderline high HDL and LDL. My dad and his brothers are all on cholesterol drugs. I'm 42 and managing it through limited red meat, limited drinking and lots of exercise. So far I haven't needed drugs to keep it down. Sounds like you might be ready for druuuuuuuuuuuugs.

doc says not yet but with my family history I'm all like,

Made a huge diff in my #s and ratio. Drug is cheap and easy, no side effects.

Doc actually cut my statin dose last visit because even though I had gained weight, my old was up and my down

I don’t like cooked oatmeal so my midafternoon snack is a kind bar and I get the rest of my extra fiber from AG 1 greens they advertise on ACCN.

Don't think you are a heavy drinker, but limiting alcohol

helps. Fish oil is something I take every day.

I am on statins and it got mine in control. They also have shown to help prevent heart attacks.

Best advice I can give you is to stop using PCP. That angel dust can really #### you up.

overall cholesterol number stayed over 200 for a while, and doc put me on a low-dose statin, and at last check it was downt to 140. LDL down from 120 to 80. Triglycerides down from 196 to 93. All in the span of 12 months. No other changes.

At least that what they used to think when they used to do bloodletting back in the 1500's.

Twice daily, soak your dink in avocado oil for 15 minutes, then take it out and helicopter it around a couple good times. It regulates your cholesterol via absorption & osmosis.

My LDL has gone up to 90 from a low of 58.

May 18, 2023, 3:32 PM

(Supposed to be below 70). My HDL is 70 and triglycerides are 75 which show that my diet and exercise are pretty good. I did switch statins last September without any effect. My doctor doesn't want to increase my statin dosage so we'll probably switch to another medication. Mine was low when I was losing weight, but once I switched to weight maintenance it went up. Because I run obsessively I'm burning more calories and consuming more food.

But honestly, I think LDL alone is a poor indicator as triglycerides may be a more important indicator. If everything else is great I'm not worried about the one number.
