When South Carolina Has the Ball

When South Carolina Has the Ball
Normally on Mondays we review the previous game but since it was Georgia State and since we will take Thursday off for Thanksgiving, I decided to jump right into the game with the rival.

Today, I want to look at the South Carolina offense. This unit has

Put Aleander on Cooper and load the box

Nov 24, 2014, 10:47 AM

If they can't run effectively their not going to be able to pass well. This is a MUCH better secondary and DL then Thompson saw in 2012. SC's OL is supposed to be their strength but they haven't really lined it up and pounded people into dust and they certainly aren't going to do it against Grady Jarrett and the boys. We do need to watch for their TEs and RB's coming out of the backfield.

Sounds like Cooper is gimpy this week?

But I don't know if it matters who is on Cooper. I think we slap them with Peters and it'll be ok.

100% agree on all points...Alexander on Cooper would IMO be best, Peters on Jones/Byrd/Rowland. Then Kearse and Smith just need to play disciplined, watching for the RB/TE's coming from the backfield when the run game gets slowed (likely see that often on 3rd downs).

Height played largely in to that though. They had a 6'5" guy he was having to cover (Waller), Alexander is only 5'10". QB had to throw it near perfect to complete the passes. SCar's tallest guy is 6'1" (Rowland) which is listed 3rd on the depth chart. Cooper and his backup are only 5'11"...Nick Jones is only 5'7", Byrd is only 5'9"...better match up height wise.

That's going to happen when a freshmen plays GT

if you get your eyes caught even once in the backfield then it'll be a big play. Also those were some very well thrown balls to a tall WR. SC doesn't have a tall WR that is a mismatch for Alexander.

Cooper is a beast and Thompson aint bad either

Nov 25, 2014, 9:11 AM

That combo is what we have to focus on... limit their effectiveness and we have a chance. But we're going to have to score against their D... and as bad as they are, they're better than Ga St and we had trouble with them... so.... draw your own conclusions, but stopping Dylan is THE key to this game.
