Bret, from the FSU perspective do you think this is mostly just hopes and dreams or there is actual movement now to make it happen?

Seems like to me there has been a lot of talk and posturing but no real action from FSU, Clemson or those sleeping in the ACC headquarters.

I'm convinced there have been casual talks...

1

Feb 24, 2023, 8:58 PM

.... for years. I am convinced that the talks got more frequent and serious after TX and OU were announced to be going to SEC.

I'm convinced they got real serious and almost daily once USC and UCLA were announced to B1G.

With today's comments from FSU I think the talks are very close to FSU and Clemson having reached an agreement with SEC or B1G.

I'm not sure if this has been posted. It mentions the huge difference in viewership that Clemson and FSU have compared to the other ACC schools. SIAP.

I hope you are right. Regardless of what happens whether it be Clemson and FSU leaving or the ACC finding a way to drastically improve revenue something has to be done in the next 1 to 3 years. If not both programs are going to be left behind. It’s taken so long at this point I’m wondering if Clemson is fine with that; however, I am pretty certain FSU is not.

As long as it does not involve the SEC.

While I have loathed the whole "SEC, SEC, SEC" BS over the years, if we are to join another conference, I think from a football standpoint, this is the best place for us. I question how we align academically but purely looking at football, this would be a great match.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

MUST be the SEC!

Feb 24, 2023, 4:14 PM [ in reply to Re: Wow! I love the aggressiveness that Florida St ]

I’m not wanting to join that conference that plays games in snow.

Give me rivalries with Auburn and a game in the swamp! Playing Georgia every other year. I want to play in Tuscaloosa and let’s have a battle in the Death Valleys every other year! Geez, I get goose bumps thinking about how amazing football would be if we were in the SEC. Spot the ball and let’s go play!

Report on what FSU AD told BOT this morning.

3

Feb 24, 2023, 4:14 PM

Pretty thorough report. Some of it you probably aren't interested in. But, some of it you probably are. Here are a couple of quotes:

****
FSU and Clemson represent 51% of all 4.0M viewership games in the ACC over 2014-2022.

FSU and Clemson combine for 24% of overall media agreement for the ACC, while collecting a combined 14%.

"I say all this just because we are in deep discussions, and with [BOT] chairman [Peter] Collins and [FSU] President [Richard] McCullough, and with [Vice President for Legal Affairs and General Counsel] Carolyn [Egan], we're in the weeds on everything that will impact the future of FSU revenues,"

But we have to do something, because we are a brand, and we're a very important brand, and we drive the media value in this conference. We're consistently talking to the conference, the President and I are sitting in meetings where we are making sure that they understand our value to this conference, but at the end of the day if something's not done, we can not be $30 million behind every year compared to our peers."

"At the end of the day, for Florida State to compete nationally, something has to change moving forward," Alford stated.
*********

bret's interpretation:
1. FSU is doing everything it can to leave the ACC ASAP.
2. FSU is in close communication and alignment with Clemson. The two of them are working together to get out of the ACC ASAP.
3. FSU and Clemson will both be out of the ACC long before 2036.

Analysis from an independent FSU Website.

Warchant.com is the leading independent social media source for FSU football. These guys are not employees of FSU. There are about 10 full time employees of Warchant. These three are probably the most senior. Guy on the left is the senior editor. Guy on the right is the owner/chief executive. They are Nole fans, for sure. But, they aren't homers. They are not pie-in-the-sky guys who never say anything negative.

Unless something amazing happens I feel like Clemson has no choice. They are correct in that we will get left behind in a big way with that type of revenue gap. Not sure why we have not heard more on this, and I’m hoping we are being proactive instead of reactive. Still can’t wrap my head around anyone signing on to something that does not run out for another 10+ years. Monies seem to change frequently and we are stuck.

To gauge the situation. Me bets they are building coalition with someone, most likely Clemson.
