Is there any others that work in an office.....

Sep 10, 2021, 7:46 AM

And they are trying to make you come back in for work.

I have been remote since covid started. Our wonderful CEO just opened the office starting 9/13 and he is expecting people to come in 3-4 days a week. Only the executives have offices in their own private wing of our building, and everybody else is in cubicles. It's going to be nice wearing a mask for 8 hours a day, when I could be comfortable working in my own home.

It's an absolutely insane move and people are already talking about quitting or looking for other jobs.

"Your lungs are forever damaged" but it's crazy to not want to go back to the office and wear a mask 8 hours a day when you can do your job as efficiently from home?

I’ve worn a mask all day in the OR for the better part of a decade now, and now all day around my clinic and the hospital too for going on two years. It’s not going to harm you to wear a mask, which I thought was your question.

Personally, I don’t wear a mask outside of work when I go out to restaurants or stores, mostly because at this point I’m done inconveniencing myself to protect unvaccinated people.

Cool. You made the decision to go into a field that requires masks pre-covid. That was your decision. You also just said that wearing a mask outside of work inconveniences you.

If I have the capability to do my job from home (more efficiently), why would I want to go to the office to work with a mask on all day when cases are starting to peak again. I also have an unvaccinated pregnant wife (advised by her dr not to get it) and kid at home.

Of course I would rather not wear a mask. But due to the circumstances, I have had to and I have to continue to do so. It's not inconvenient, doesn't affect my ability to breath, work, or live. Its literally just a piece of cloth.

Re: Is there any others that work in an office.....

Sep 10, 2021, 8:21 AM

I was home for a year and a half but got called back in 4 weeks ago. I'm only going in 3 days a week for now. I only wear the mask while moving around or meeting with other people. My cube is fairly large and has 6 foot walls. Also the 1 guy that I share a wall with is working from home 100% because of his age and health. The other guy on the other wall works strange hours so we are seldom there together. I guess that is pretty good social distancing.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Is there any others that work in an office.....

Sep 10, 2021, 10:13 AM

I do go to work every day...... from home

Here is my day when I work from home.

6:45: roll out of bed, feed and take out the dogs, and then sign on by 7
12:00: take an hour lunch break where I often still am working
5:00: sign off
9:00: my work station is already set up at home so if anything g comes up, I handle.

Here is my day when I go to the office

6:30: wake up, feed and take out dogs, shower, shave, get ready
7:15: commute to work
8:00: arrive at work and sign on
12:00: take an hour lunch break where I don't work
5:00: take my 45 min commute home.

I have less personal time and also work less when I go to the office. It makes no sense to come back when cases are peaking and I have to wear a mask all day.

Ok. Start your own business. Then you can make rules you like. That’s what I did over 20 years ago.

Otherwise go to work. Or quit. Bitching about it on the interwebs won’t help. I don’t think you will get much sympathy here anyway.

Jesus dude, chill out. It is frustrating to have to go back to the office when covid cases are leaking again. I was wondering if anybody is having a similar experience.

2024 purple level member flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I can run just before work or at lunch.

May 25, 2021, 10:33 AM [ in reply to Re: Is there any others that work in an office..... ]

I don't have to shower or be presentable to others. This morning I woke at 6:45, ran 5 miles, and was sitting at my computer by 8. Not having a commute frees up more more time and removes excuses for not running. I know many people who are not able to keep up with exercise because of having to go to an office. My wife wakes up at 4:45 every morning to go to the gym and then come home and get ready for work.

The only thing insane is having you come in 3-4 days a week rather than 5. I guess the days you can stay home have been determined to be COVID crazy and the days you go to the office are safe? Sure.

Yes, it's annoying to wear a mask for most people, but it doesn't harm you in the least. Your boss should extend his fully Constitutional mandate to all 5 days or none, not some hybrid gibberish.

Yes, I would do that and plan too if my side business doesn't turn into a full time job. I started a company in February of this year with hopes of making it full time in the future. If I wasn't doing this I would absolutely be looking for other jobs

My business has not shut down one day and we have 50 employees. Not one person wears a mask at work and several of us go out to plants daily that have not quit working , thaws plant have thousands of employees. 3 had gotten covid in the last year and stayed home for a week or so and all 3 said it was like a cold , I had it and did not even know it . Everyone works pretty close to each other as well .
