Clemson doesn't care about basketball....as evidenced by Brown-L getting 14 years.

Not unexpected. Only one team above us last week lost- Oregon. So we moved up one. We have to win out impressively AND the others above us have to lose. Very unlikely it will all work out, but you never know.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

We have yet to win impressively and are going to need a ton of

Unfortunately, this is the problem. If we could get blowouts in the last 3 games we got a shot, but as you stated I just don’t see Streeter and DJ being able to do this.

Re: TNET: Clemson's updated College Football Playoff ranking unveiled

Nov 16, 2022, 12:35 AM [ in reply to Re: TNET: Clemson's updated College Football Playoff ranking unveiled ]

Remember when they told us that the CFP rankings wouldn't be about "blowouts" or "running up the score"?

Then they came up with this "eye test" that, to the average person, looks suspiciously like running up the score.

Michigan's only quality win was their domination of a Penn St team that has beaten NO quality teams (their road win vs Auburn doesn't count for much this year). If it weren't for the "eye test", Michigan would be a parenthetical in this conversation (since OSU will beat them by 3 TDs). Not to negate that their defense is dominant in most games, but who exactly are they dominating?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Michigan is undefeated. They aren’t going to put a 1-loss

Nov 16, 2022, 11:20 AM

Winning out impressively will be the hardest part. Too many around here are already assuming we will finish the season with one loss which is a HUGE assumption at this point and makes all of this playoff speculation extremely premature. I do agree if we put it all together and finish strong as a one loss team that we would have a decent claim to the #4 spot but let's wait and see what happens first.

Can you imagine how far we'd have dropped if we beat Louisville 13-10. The narrative would have been atrocious. Arkansas playing 3rd string qb.

But if you heard Saturday, the narrative was lsu exploded with a suffocating defense and their new darling who did in fact have a good game... but you're still talking about Arkansas. Pitiful.

No respect for fla st either or unc. But uga will beat them badly.

Re: TNET: Clemson's updated College Football Playoff ranking unveiled

Nov 15, 2022, 11:38 PM

They are no longer ashamed with their bias towards the SEC.

Tenn only needs TCU to fall and they are in.

We need:
1. ND to win out
2. TCU to loose
3. USC (the real USC) to loose. Done if ND wins out
4. LSU to loose
5. Alabama to loose
6. Tenn to loose

Ridiculous. The talking heads were saying just today that Tenn is the biggest winner from the Ducks loss last week.

So darn tired of it. LSU should be out of the top 10. They have 2 losses. Barely beat Arkansas. A 500 team and not really even 500 since one of the wins was a gimmie against the Coots.

Somehow we just have to tune it out and keep winning.

Re: TNET: Clemson's updated College Football Playoff ranking unveiled

Nov 16, 2022, 9:25 AM

LSU and Alabama don't have to lose. Remember that there have been several instances where the conference champion jumps over other teams in the final poll. Clemson will have a better record than LSU and Alabama, one more game than Alabama, and a conference championship (assuming they win out). Both of them will get jumped in that situation.

We need TCU to lose and GA to beat LSU in the SEC championship game.

If that happens and we win out, we have a 50/50 chance of making the playoffs.

All the other things would be nice.

It would be helpful if:

OSU curb stomps Michigan
Notre Dame wins out
UNC wins out until the ACC championship game

Completely agree. This does not make me happy. The team we beat beat them. They got smoked by the Vols but I guess a 40-13 blowout is a good loss if you are in the SEC.

Now I have not seen anything from our Tigers this year that screams elite, but there are some very flawed teams in front of us as well.

Us in the playoffs this year. The offense is like a loose wire that every so often breaks the connection, and it can happen at any time. But even when working, you hold your breath waiting for it to break. . The defense, when they ‘have the right mindset’ can compete, but I don’t think they would last past the 2nd Qtr of CFP. I think it’s possible to get into the playoffs, but I think it would be a last-one-standing situation after winning out. 12–1 with a Coot beatdown (again), ACC Title and New Years Six win would be in the top 10 all time seasons and works for me.

Even if we don’t control our destiny re playoffs, we do control winning out and getting to Orange Bowl for a marquee matchup. Not a bad place to be!!’ Go Tigers.

Nov 16, 2022, 1:06 AM

If we manage to win out we will be in the playoffs regardless of their 80% chance. The conference Championship will be the difference!

Let’s go Tigers!

I’d love to see us matched up with Ohio State or Michigan in the 1st round and then take out The dawgs in the Championship!

We will have to improve like we did in 2016 at the end of the season, Peak baby PEAK.

DJ might just prove to be the best QB in the nation the last 5 weeks of the season!

Wouldn’t it be awesome to win it all this season after all the holding we’ve dealt with all season!

Praying for a Miracle Lord, only with your can we win it all Lord!

@HumbleServant going to have to disagree with you on this one. Too many teams between us and a 4th. If we are going to have to worry about 2 loss teams then you know they are making sure we won’t get in.

We currently lack style points this year, which is what an ACC team with a 50 plus SOS, has to have to be considered. No style points required for the SEC.

Hope I’m wrong but the reality imo is that we would be better served to get a big bowl bid. Just not sure this team has what it would needs to compete with a top 4.

A couple of good recruiting classes can easily get us back to where we want to be.

I think we're being judged for inconsistency, especially at QB, and the pitiful performance at ND. We lack an explosive offense. Are we a better team than Alabama? Maybe we'll find out in the Orange Bowl, which would be kinda like a fifth playoff game, if it happens. We have an outside chance to make the CFP, but I'll be happy if we win the rest of them, regardless. Go Tigers!!!

We obviously need some help. TCU won’t win out. ND will beat So. Cal. Ohio State will beat Michigan. Dawgs will beat LSU. If we are conference champions, we will jump Bama.

Re: TNET: Clemson's updated College Football Playoff ranking unveiled

Nov 16, 2022, 9:27 AM

There are 3 spots pretty much spoken for: Georgia, OSU/Mich winner, and Tennessee.

Assuming Clemson wins out with ACC championship game victory...

LSU - if they win SEC championship game they are in
OSU - as a loser in Mich/OSU will get in ahead of Clemson
TCU - if they win out they are in. If they lose a regular season game, they are still 50/50 by winning Big 12 championship game
USC - must win out and will be ahead of Clemson.
Michigan - as a loser in Mich/OSU is a 50/50 with Clemson. Unless a blowout, they are ahead of Clemson.
UNC - if they win out with ACC championship game win, Clemson is out

Actually, it is very likely that all of these teams do lose a game when you look at the schedules, but even if that happens Clemson is still only 50/50 odds against TCU and Michigan.

If they want to win a head-to-head comparison, they need to steamroll the last 3 teams to impress the committee showing they are peaking at the right time.
