Sorry Guys but I don't see our FB Team being special after..

seeing them Saturday in person. I've been around TiGER Teams since 1958..and this Team isn't a 1958 Team, or a 1959 Team, or a 1981 Team, or even 2010 or 2011 Team.
The Offense isn't clicking overall in the first 7 games...and the D is still a major work in progress. Main scores against FSU were trick plays which is a tale-tell sign of having genuine ability upfront.
Let's be honest with ourselves..we've not played anyone decent but FSU, and lost by 12 and it could have been 19...and only other real quality opponent (with 2 losses already) is SC.
Still, if we continue to improve on both sides we could finish up with just 1 or 2 losses..and play in a very good bowl such as the Chick-Fil-A bowl which I've always enjoyed.

Wow. I think this team is good, not great, but missing about 4 players from being great. Maybe 6-7 players from being elite.

Agree, agree, agree. The game Saturday doesn't look close in score but a few plays and a couple of questionable calls could have changed everything. We still have a long way to go to be a quality team but we are headed in the right direction.

We will be 11-1 and blow through WF, Duke, Mary, & NCST.
By the time we get to Thanksgiving it will be hitting on all cylinders.
Some really great Coaching this year as we still need a few pieces but I would say this team fights more, and lays it on the line more than any team in recent memory. Plus, they believe, which is mission critical.
We will win the games we are supposed to win. That's the sign of a champion.
FSU will spare out and lose to somebody (VT).
We are going to Charlotte.
I bet we play our tails off for the rest of the year.

This place is a collection of opinions and you are entitled to yours most definately. I agree there are gaps. And they are visible. But I think for the most part the team is comprised of high level talent at most of the critical offensive positions. The defensive situation is very different and BV is adlibbing and tweaking things on the fly. This makeshift approach is all he can do. The good news here is that its working and he's "mining" the talent on D. In general, the team is made up of mostly underclassmen supporting a very thin cast of productive players. I see us scrapping and fighting our way to 11 wins barring anymore injuries. It aint gonna be pretty.

"special" a team is. Sure, it may not be a 1981 caliber team, but Tajh is a NFL level QB. Ellington is a NFL level running back, Nuk is an NFL caliber receiver, and Sammy is SFYMANPOW.
It may not win a national championship...but this team is sure as shitake special.
I'm glad you haven't been to more games. Kept a seat open for a true fan.

Look up my bio under "Lightbulb" Bill..plus you'll see I sent a son to Tigertown too. And, how many of you met and/or interviewed Coach Frank Howard, or Coach Bob Jones, or Bonnie Banks McFadden..as I did?! Come'on.
Many of you are so narrow-minded, prejudiced or one-sided for Your/Our Clemson Team...but know I was just stating what I saw Saturday...that this team is not an overly impressive TEAM (IMO) even though it might win 9-11 or more games.
The emphasis was on word TEAM..which includes O, D, Special teams, etc. Yes, we have some outstanding "individuals" who are fantastic to watch..and more times than not our Team is a TEAM..but something was missing Saturday which caused me to speak outwardly on TigerNet..something dangerous in this Nation and/or forum of free speech, it appears.

Bill, I agree. Most of these guys on here know nothing about Clemson football. BTW if you were at GaTech game you saw me run (walk slowly) down the hill with the reunion team. Knew all those coaches well. Bob Jones was my brother's commanding officer in WWII.
Frank Howard and Banks would have gone off on many of the current team. We are good but not great. Despite people like Low Country, we are on the right track, IMHO. When I was there we brought in 120 freshman football players and were 4 deep on every varsity position whit no freshman elegibility. Makes a difference.

While I totally agree with the OP, I still think this team is one of the most fun to watch while agonizing and writhing in pain in bewilderment. It's like hot-cold, up-down, in-out, etc the entire game. You don't want to possibly miss the next play, but many times wish you had.

That's been the MO of this team for at least 20 years but people like myself and lightbulb are called coot and idiot and ####### for expressing an opinion (an opinion shared by many of the coaches if you watch the interviews and hear what they are truly saying) but then there are the tigerqueens of the world who allow their ####### and PMS to get in the way of football discussion . Tigerqueen forgets that our eyes work and that we as fans see that we tackle poorly, don't get off blocks , the oline seems to begin to fail around the 7-8 game mark of the season , our opponents records are horrid and we lost to the only team we have played with a winning record except for Ball St. Are there things to be optimistic about , sure . Do we still see the things that have plagued us for 20 years or more , you #### right we do.

else. Our lines on both side of the ball are weak. Our linebackers are not very impressive (with the exception of #33 lately), and our secondary continually gets beat with the big play.
Our offense has a lot of stars, but we aren't fundamentally sound. We can't pick up 3 yards on the ground when we need to. We run far too many trick plays. We have two of the best collegiate receivers that I've ever seen, but we are more interested in running reverses and screen passes with them than using them effectively.

I love this Tiger Team but we are very young. I think the OL & DL will improve. My biggest issue is that honestly, we have NOT played any quality teams. FSU, maybe but getting beat by NC State shows they are suspect at best. I feel if we run into a real top ten team it may be a repeat of the OB. I just hope it's not the last game of the season!

I'm not sure they will be top ten but they have played much better competition. My biggest concern with the coots is will our O line be able to give Tajh enough time to hit Sammy and company. And will our D be able to stop the run and QB scramble. We will have to play or best to beat them.

And I'm not sure how in the world you could say our offense isn't clicking. Yeah, they weren't sharp against VT, but they are still averaging over 40 points and nearly 500 yards a game. The offense has been carrying the team!
Look, i don't think this is a "special" team either since the defense has been such a big achilles heel, but you could at least make some better arguments.

They might not have won in spectacular fashion, but they sure have won all but the FSU game (when they were ranked in the top 5). You want to travel back in time...I can remember when we were thankful when Clemson reached six wins in a season, assuring it would not be a losing season. Be thankful for what you have.

I agree with Lightbulb as far as the overall quality of the team. It is good but not special. Our record will be very good because our conference is awful. I am disappointed with the lack of respect some of the posters who claim to be students or more recent graduates have shown in this thread. I see no need for the charecterization as "old man or coot" just because you disagree. A little lesson in civility would be helpful to some. Go Tigers!

We have some excellent skill players and our O-line while bad last week, has been pretty solid. We still ran for a good bit, and got pass protection at critical times. Our defense is bad, but they have been making stops at critical moments recently.
While not a great team we should still get 10 wins, and may have a shot at the ACC championship. Ill take that.
