Somewhat curious about the new ACC Network......

Mar 20, 2019, 1:45 PM

Maybe, my old mind strays, but it seems I read a post recently, suggesting the new network launch would feature a piece about Duke basketball and Coach K.

OK, but it seems that a launch at the beginning of football season would feature a series on the ACC's NATIONAL FOOTBALL CHAMPIONS, celebrating TWO NATIONAL TITLES IN THE PAST THREE YEARS...a feature IMO that would garner a he1l of a lot more viewers that time of year than a basketball piece.

Then again, I realize with whom we are dealing in Greensboro along with the ESPN folks whose thinking appears somewhat lacking.

All this or it could just be my prejudiced, old mind. Just saying.........................

I'm convinced...

based on the people in Greensboro with whom we are dealing (as you pointed out) that they will go out of their way and make it a point of emphasis to **** this whole thing up just about as badly as humanly possible.

Featuring a piece about Duke basketball and Coach K at the beginning of college football season just further supports my contention.

Sometimes good things fall apart so better things can fall together.

Sorry, I think you're wrong. There are only 2-3 schools who

really care about football in the ACC.

unveiling of the ACC Network football broadcast.

I would think the ACC Network will be heavily invested in Clemson football and Duke/UNC basketball. They'd be fools not to be.

The ACC is still a basketball conference at heart

Which is the conference will always trail the SEC in football.

competitive standpoint though we are as close if not equal to basketball in the ACC with our football.

Part of what makes the SEC such a huge brand and its football seemingly more dominant is simply the number of fans that can fit in their stadiums and travel to games, crazy support throughout the programs. The ACC has a lot of fanbases that just don't give a rats behind about footballin', though the programs perform well enough just the same.

Good Points!
I agree. Wish there was interest enough for ACC stadiums to be bigger! Hopefully we continue the run we are currently on. Be good to see FSU and Miami become strong again. By strong I mean; they can schedule and win some early season games vs. SEC and BIG 10 opponents! Maybe Duke can become the Stanford of the east coast in football. And be tough enough to compete most! Or Va. Tech perhaps come back to form!

To me for years though: the Big 10 was a one trick pony with Ohio St. I know Michigan St. had a couple good years - but it was mostly O 31 0 st.
How did they retain their status as a strong conference?

The ACC has multiple teams who have more recently won National Titles or played for them. Clemson, FSU, Miami, Va. Tech(played for), Ga. Tech! Michigan, Ohio St and Nebraska last won in 97. Penn St. won in 86 and 82.

To me it's all about who get's talked up the most! The fact of the matter is there are enough teams in the ACC who have had recent success to not have to deal with the basketball only conference perception. Especially Clemson and FSU; especially b/c each one of those national titles came by defeating SEC teams "on the field"!
Perception is everything despite the facts I guess!

I have no problem with it. Hopefully some football related documentaries will follow like one on Coach Howard.

And I LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE me some Coach Swinney, but as of today the most prominent figure/name in the ACC is Coach K. So it makes sense to feature him.

Coach K has 5 titles. Coach Swinney is on his way to 5 or more!

Since 2013 the ACC has won 3 of the 5 National Championships! The folks over at ESPN and in Greensboro need to remember how much more money is involved in football! Coach K is great and all; but at the start of football season? Bad form in my opinion and an act that smells of desperation for viewership! The thing is "people will be starving for anything football by then"! You don't need to run a piece on a basketball coach(given he is a legend) to get folks to watch SEC - PN!

I think along with Clemson you have NC State, Syracuse, Florida St, Pitt, BC and Miami who take football very serious! BC just don't get the players; but they take it serious. Cuse has a nice little thing going on with Babers and now their basketball team is average. Nancy St - has the potential to be really good; but they seem to love "strange" HC. Miami and FSU are surrounded by talent and just need the right coaches in place to be strong contenders every season! Both are going through some pain now; but will bounce back!

Go Tigers!

I don't care about any of that really! I care about how the Clemson family is doing and getting along! Everything else is gravy!

the people who run the ACC Network to trust them lurking around his program. I think he controls a lot more than some know but those of us who follow closely remember him cleaning out STS.
