Anybody else ever seen that safety call happen?

Sep 22, 2016, 9:07 PM

I had no idea that was a rule. Glad it is though lol.

More I think about it, the more it makes sense...

...Tech guy had the ball in positive territory but fumbled into the endzone. So it's a safety. Just never seen a safety play out like that.

Yeah it has to do with force. Since the GT player was the cause of the ball going into the end zone, GT has the responsibility to get the ball out of the end zone. Since they didn't and the ball became dead in their own end zone, it's a safety.

When GT intercepted they became the offense. So the fumble in the EZ was a safety. I have never seen that happen ... and I'm old. :)

Actually even if Clemson had forced that fumble

It would have still been a safety

I GT had the ball in their possession brought it out of the endzone into the field of play and then fumbled into his endzone. When I saw it happen my first reaction was "that's a safety".

Mine too. A safety

After the bad calls the officials made they were just...

making sure everybody knew they understood the rule book. That safety was the only way to call that play.

Tiger/Terrier

Something similar.

Long time ago - NCSU at Clemson. Player took one step out of the end zone on a kickoff (or rather the ball crossed the line). Changed his mind and took a knee with the ball back in the end zone. Safety.

This is the same thing. Ball came out of the EZ and was fumbled back into it. It was gonna be 6 or 2.
