Random thoughts

We've won as many games in the last two years as USuC has in the last five.

ESPN by building up one conference (SEC in case you didn't know) are unwittingly killing their own cash cow. If something is not done soon to include west coast and northeast in playoff format, advertising revenue will dry up when those markets tune out.

Brad Brownell is not getting fired this year. Mark it down.

Ken Jennings is the best Jeopardy champion ever, the GOAT.

The NC game Monday night will be a lot closer than the bandwagon fans from both teams think.

Eighty percent of Clemson fans only care about basketball 25% of the time.

Clemson will be a better football team next year than this year.

Have a nice day.

I would like to reply to each of your thoughts:

Can't argue with facts.

While I agree ESPN is losing viewers based off of their agenda, they can't make the PAC12 have an undefeated or 1 loss team and either Utah or Oregon with 1 loss this year would have likely gotten in over Oklahoma (at least most thought they would leading up to conf. champ. games). Yes lack of representation from those areas does hurt the bottom line, but not as much as you would expect because of the lack of interest in college football in much of the populated areas of each location.

I'm not sure if you are right or wrong on Brownell. Reason to follow.

We will find out during the show of champions.

Big games are always closer than biased fans believe they will be.... except when they're not.

My percentage is less than 25% and that's why I have little opinion about what will happen to Brownell. Football, baseball, basketball is my order of interest and basketball season gets cut off on both sides by my top 2.

I think the comparison of this team to next year's team depends on 3 things: Can Ross assume the alpha role in the same way Higgins did this season when things get tough?, do we keep the 3-4 or return to the 4-3 as our base defense?, and how big is the drop-off to the new LB/DB from Simmons?

I hope you have a nice day as well. Go Tigers!

Someone like me that puts basketball below baseball. ***

Like your 3 things re this year vs next year - TigersO .., with one addition - the OLine... Losses along the OLine concern me . Know we are recruiting at a high level here but always feel experience is such a big factor in the line. Thoughts ? Please tell me I’m just overly concerned for no good reason .. lol. -<img border=">">">">">

If people were as good as their obituary - and products were as good as advertised - this would truly be a wonderful world !!

It’s very easy to be a fan when your team has won 29 straight games, Can you be one IF the Tigers lose a few games??? Some of you will not be able to handle it! You’re not a fan and certain,y not a supporter of the university. Go Tigers. Win championships

Well I have seem just about any win/lost season you can imagine. Been a diehard fan since 1957 and believe me I have been through some tough years. Loving what CDS has done for this University and it will be rough when they lose a couple of games sometimes. Hoping that doesn't happen for many years from now, but if it does, so be it. I want be jumping off any bridges when it happens. God bless the Clemson Tigers and that great coaching staff.

Well from what I have seen on this board most people are older than dirt and knew John C Calhoun. For the Clemson graduates they will always be Orange in the blood. No need to repeat what we have all gone through with lesser teams. We will enjoy this Dabo era because of the past. There were good teams in our life time. Clemson didn't just become of good football program recently. Just brought it to a new all time level of achievement which has been extremely sweet. I would venture to bet the majority on here will always back the team on the field regardless. They are our boys! They represent our school.

We aren't going anywhere. I am on in my 6th decade so not so old as some others.

I moved to SC from West Virginia in 1978. I was fifteen. I immediately became a Clemson fan, attended Clemson, was spoiled when we won NC in 1981, my freshman year. I have been through the Hatfield years and the West years. I also teach school and have students tell me I should switch. I explain that I have sweat equity at Clemson and will be a Tiger until the day I die, even if we were to lose every game between now and then.

I think Clemson will still be very good next year and be a contender once again to win the NC. However, it's hard for me to say we're going to be better than this year. We'll be losing perhaps the best running back in school history, a 1st round pick at receiver in Higgins, 4 of our starting OL, as well as Simmons and Terrell on defense.

We've proven in the past several years to have a great ability to lose a ton of talent and keep on rolling which is why I say we will still contend for a NC. I just can't look at those losses and predict us as being better.

In an attempt to try to make you feel a little better about our losses.

We do not currently have a replacement for ETN. Sure Lyn J has had moments but hasn't shown anything on a similar level. Sorry no help there for your feelings.

Higgins freshman year was not much difference productivity wise than Ladson or Ngata. We have two options to replace him and need one to make the jump. They likely won't be what Tee has been this season, but if Ross can fill Tee's role then one of the other guys just needs to fit into that #2 spot.

There is no way we can replace the experience of the 4 starting OL because some of them have gotten major playing time for 4 seasons, but almost every one of the options as replacements were more highly thought of when they entered the program than the senior leaving in front of them. Once the new line gels, the drop-off may not be drastic if there is one.

We aren't replacing Simmons but I am hoping that our wealth of talented young LBs and DBs can combine to do the things that he does at a level close to what he did LAST season. It will take time though.

As far as Terrell, similar to Higgins, Kendrick will take his spot as the shutdown guy. We just need one of the young DBs mentioned to step up to fill the other CB spot. I think we have a really good 3-4 options and need one guy to take the spot the way Kendrick did this year.

ETN and Simmons are on another level from their replacements, but two irreplaceable players sound much better than your original list. My hope is that the influx of talent at their positions and others will help cover the gap.

Trenton Simpson!

Watching that All-star game this past weekend, TS looked like the real deal. He was all over the place. Obviously probably not a Simmons replacement as a true frosh, but lots of promise there.

I think to counter Simmons loss will be a 4-3 instead of 3-4 since our DL will be much more experienced. That will help the DBs and LBs.

ETN is coming back, but even if he was not, Lyn J can carry that load. He is averaging over 6 yards per carry, catches great out of the backfield, and pass protects like a champ. All he needs is more touches.

Re: Random thoughts

Jan 8, 2020, 2:48 PM

As I said, Lyn J is good.

Let's be very clear and fair to him though and not expect him to do what Travis has done at any point in his career.

I will repeat that Lyn J is a good player, but Travis is on another level with what he has done as a Tiger.

As I said before, I do think we'll be fine and could still be the best team in the country next season. So I'm not predicting we fall off due to these losses or anything, and I know we'll be replacing them all with great talent. I just can't look at those losses and then turn around and say we're going to be better next season. Could we end up being? We sure could, but it's not something I can proclaim at this point.

Now that I am working on No. 99, I realize my desire to live to the ripe old age of 110, the odds are not in my favor. I just hope the Good Lord shows a lot of mercy and grants me entrance through the pearly gates. And one more request, a front row seat so I can watch the Tigers continue their mastery over the SEC and all of the other "wannabees". THE BEST IS YET TO COME !!!!!

Have you posted all your short stories in one location? You invested a lot of time sharing your history on here and it would be great to have access to stories I have missed.

Or have you tried to publish?

I have enough material for three books but can't get enough "get up and do it" to finish the project. I have told my grandchildren the ball is in their court.

Re: Joe21!

Jan 9, 2020, 2:50 AM

Hey Mr Joe, could someone help facilitate it? Either simply creating a webpage or more involved with publishings? I know you don't know me from anything closer than a Sonic Tater Tot!

All I know is that my Gpa was very gifted both visually pcs of art and short stories. He passed a little sooner than we expected at 88 but he was in the Navy during WW2, Multiple Golden Gloves from Chicago and NY (interestingly enough as a Polio child with only one arm afflicted, Always posted wrong arm advertising). He used his bum arm as a jab and fodder, then had a nasty right hook. Some of my relatives were the headliners before 1940s.

That said, we have lost some of his historical recollections, I would hate for that to happen. Many many options, but you have them written. That said you could critique afterwards.

But please consider documenting. Just think about great great grandkids that could pull up ancestry.com and retrieve great historical insight?

You can publish this both in monetarily access or you could just give to ancestry. Com to use as a filler in historical family quests. You could offer details just as a historical addition or you van search for monetary gain. Both very acceptable but just need accuracy. Thank you for your help!

Fyi, I'm not in this biz at all, I don't have a chicken bone in this dog-fight. But rather have an honest recollection of historical scenarios versus fake scenarios.

Kind of like last year when a 21pt win felt like a loss versus a loss? Someone elses words?

Happy New Year!!! Glad you are ours!

completely changed the dynamic of the game and took it to a new level by piling up points and then hunting for daily doubles.

If the northeast and west coast want in to the playoffs, they should field better teams and be more competitive when they do get there.

Clemson is a football school, doo dah, doo dah. That's why Brownell won't be fired. He's protected by Dabo's dynasty.
