some jobs totally unrelated, like trying to be an underwriter. Eventually got messaged by a couple of different recruiters. I don't know if the increased activity got my name in some sort of lead generation bucket or what, but I got found and would have never imagined to apply with this company.
You are in a different boat than I was of course, unless you are ready to #### away all those years of service and sweet sweet state retirement.

My biggest issue is the lack of experience.

I'm in that rut of "you don't have enough experience for us to hire you" even though I can't get the experience without getting hired.
So I'm thinking I may have to partner up in a private company to get relevant experience for a couple of years before coming back to public options.
And all of the "your profile matches this job" is for front office receptionist.

and dealt with that for a year or two, but that is water under the bridge. You lost the other job to nepotism. Eventually that nepotism has to work in your favor.

Was talking to a person in the know this weekend and was told "I didn't want to tell you, but you didn't have a shot at that job"
Apparently the dude who got it was suppose to get another job there a couple years ago until an old friend threw his hat in the ring.
Dude got left out in the cold.
So this was one of those "sorry we screwed you over before" hires.

serious question. my mom works in education, and she never really uses linkedin except for looking for random job postings in private sector.
