I agree with the Freemont street experience. The light show is exceptional. I was there this past November and It's definitely worth seeing. The casinos seem to pay out more on Freemont also.

How much time do you have? Honestly just walking the strip and seeing all the casinos is one of the best things to do. Can even stop in and gamble for a few minutes if you like. No open container laws, so if you are so inclined, grab a beer and just stroll around. Check out the water show and see New York, New York and everything in between!

Re: OK tnet. Flying into Vegas for the first time

Other than the obvious...I would actually suggest the Michael Jackson One show at Mandalay...was an awesome change of pace from the casinos and sports books

The old casinos and lights sounds great.

Already addressed the whole marriage thing with her. nttawwt

Breakfast sounds great, limo sounds expensive

I haven't lost my winter coat yet

Fly in at 5:30 on Sunday and leave Wednesday morning. Of course, We'll celebrate a championship Monday. Water show check

Micheal Jackson is great, she's a huge fan. I know, I know

Something else if you're not into the big clubbing/party scene is to go to one of the big sports books (I'd recommend The Wynn) place a little wager on a basketball game and enjoy the experience of watching the game with something on the line. I did this for the Oregon/OSU National Championship game last year and it really gets the juices flowing. You'll be in awe of the sheer amount of TVs and comfortable seating to eat h your game.

Whatever you do, don't take a card from one of the many folks handing them out and call.

Remember - What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas

Jan 7, 2016, 9:45 PM

1) Read a book about card counting while on the flight
2) Do some Jagermeister shots on top of Caesar's Palace with your friends
3) Party with Carrot Top on the strip
4) Meet and marry a stripper/prostitute
5) Kidnap a naked Asian man and lock him in your trunk of your rental car
6) Break into Mike Tyson's house and take his tiger to your hotel room (seems legit)
7) Get a Tyson-patented tattoo on your face
8) When you get back to the room and your friend finally passes out, carry him on his mattress back up to the roof of Caesar's Palace and leave him there
9) When you wake up Monday morning, take your card counting tricks down to the floor and go on a big winning streak
10) Catch the charter bus arranged here on Tigernet to the game
11) Have the time of your life watching the Tigers win the NC

Vegas, a weekend to remember.

Re: I live in Las Vegas

Jan 7, 2016, 10:27 PM

I live in Vegas. Best thing here is stay away from the Strip. There are casinos everywhere if that's what you are into. Freemont is a great experience. It's where the locals go to get away from all the tourist that are out here. Container park is another good place to go. There are a bunch of kids there during the day time, but after 9pm I think is the time, they close it off to all people under the age of 21 and there is normally live bands, and a couple of bars around it to go drink if you want to do so. If you HAVE to go to the strip just walk around it's crazy place to say the least. A lot of people walking around snapping photos, a lot of drunks stumbling around and so forth. I tend to stay away from the strip since I have kids, but I see a lot of kids in strollers rolling around. Enjoy your stay and GO TIGERS!

Titanic exhibit at Luxor is pretty cool.
FYI if someone on the strip offers you their music CD like its free don't take it!! because they will then try to "force" money from you.
2. Stay away from the Monorail past 9pm.
3. Unless you really would like to purchase a timeshare or need 100.00 bucks cash, tell everyone....sorry but my flight leaves in a few hours.

Good luck

If not, walk the strip, watch the fountain show, people watch anywhere and have a blast!

Jan 8, 2016, 5:10 AM

Zion is amazing. I like it better than the Grand Canyon. 4 wheelers in the desert are fun to do. Fremont street is overrated, except for their cheaper craps tables. I think the've got the loosest craps in town. Gold and Silver Pawn is fun to see, don't expect to see Pawn Stars "stars" there, though. Golf is always fun. Blue Man Group is fun, "O" (Circ du Sol) is good.

Re: OK tnet. Flying into Vegas for the first time

Jan 8, 2016, 4:59 AM

I see nothing wrong with the monorail after 9PM. Never had a problem on it. Avoid conversations with the 'barkers' on the strip. Waste of time at best. I just act deaf or start speaking French and keep moving.

2024 purple level memberbadge-donor-15yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Went for first time last year

Jan 8, 2016, 7:00 AM

We aren't really into the casinos but walking around the strip is a must.

Go to Hoover ### and have lunch in Boulder City.

Go hike Red Rocks Canyon National Park. Very close and very cool.

Zion is amazing but a good 4 hour + drive.

We ate in so many great restaurants but if you want the best down home food you will ever have go to Hash House A Go Go. There are several out there. I suggest splitting app's(try the Fried Green Tomatoes) and your entree as the portion sizes are ridiculous.

Re: OK tnet. Flying into Vegas for the first time

Jan 8, 2016, 7:20 AM

If going with wife/girlfriend, go see a show. Cheaper than 15 minutes at the Blackjack table, and much more memorable. I REALLY recommend "O" at the Bellagio. It's expensive, but worth it. Think Girls just wearing only bikini bottoms cutting flips to handstands in a large martini glass full of water 10 feet tall. Go early so your "other" can check out the expensive glass at the Bellagio. Free museum there too, easily worth the price of admission.

I was going to the bathroom and never came back.

Texted her about 20 minutes later and told her I was back at the room. Just not my thing, I guess.

Some say to avoid the strip but

Jan 8, 2016, 8:44 AM

its you first time. Walk around check out all the major hotels. You may not want to ever do it again, but you need to experience it once. They are impressive, some in a ridiculous tacky way.
