Cross is from San Antonio, and ran in the same circles as Billy Gibbons and Stevie Ray Vaughan while playing in blues rock cover bands before he started putting out records. He actually once filled in on guitar for Ritchie Blackmore at a Deep Purple show in San Antonio when Blackmore was too sick to play the gig.
