Another downside to the portal no one is talking about

Jan 4, 2022, 12:54 AM

You will see an example of the point I'm trying to make if rumors are true that Caleb Williams is going to Miami....

A kid like Tyler Van Dyke that as a freshman was really #### good and did things the correct way, would be forced to the bench by a bigger name and then be forced into the portal himself despite wanting to play for the school he committed to and having thrived there

Just another example of a fatality of the portal

Miami … I haven’t seen that but tbh I’ll be pretty surprised if he doesn’t end up at USC… although I’m not really sure what they are thinking with the “plan” they have… obviously OUs offense is gonna be good with Lebby and the OU qbs the last 4/5 years speaks for itself … imo he would be dumb to leave unless he went to a place like Clemson or uga … would instantly be in the heisman and national title talks, which he is at OU so it’s gotta be all about money for them and so cal seems like a good option

No way in hayull Dabo would take that guy.***

I agree that a kid should be able to leave a place that they committed to, but things aren't going like they expect it go, he should be able to leave, but, the contract that they signed should mean something, and when a kid breaks that contract, there absolutely should be a penalty for doing so, and they should have to sit the next season, but they get that season back at the end if they stay with the next place they go. But if they leave that place also, sit a year without getting that year back the second time they break the contract. Like I said, the contract should mean something!!!!

I don’t see a player coming to Clemson as a portal transfer. Kids move because they aren’t getting playing time. With all the big time guys on Dabos roster what player thinks he can come here and be a star?

I agree Forest, that is the problem with kids wanting to come to Clemson. There will be a few who could win starting time that is in the Portal but the vast many in there will never get much playing time due to the one’s we have starting. Dabo will never promise anyone if they come he will be the starter. That is the very reason we have so many leaving in the first place because they are buried in the depth chart.

Yes Clemson will need the Portal but it is going to be very difficult to find one with all of the other Blue- Blooded teams fighting for the same player. Not many Ciaches are going to do it the right way. They will promise anything to get that player to sign, the same way they do in recruiting high school players.

And with the Portal you have to add the NIL in there. You then have a TWO HEADED MONSTER!!!!!!!

I think Williams is just going to get in a bidding war between Georgia, Auburn and USC. If Oklahoma can't match highest bid, he will leave. The portal has turned into a money grab instead of a way for kids to get more playing time. It is sad to watch.....

OU has apparently moved on with the QB from UCF who played

Jan 4, 2022, 8:40 AM

Lebby. He's not going to OU to sit

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I mean, isn't this subject to happening every single year

Jan 4, 2022, 8:36 AM

with or without the portal?

Look no further than DJ. He's working hard and doing things the right way. Then we have the audacity to go sign ANOTHER highly rated qb?

I don't love the portal, but it ain't to blame for all of the world's problems.

Some differences

Jan 4, 2022, 8:43 AM

DJ would have known we had to recruit a QB this year with him being a junior. If DJ had played as expected, CK would be his back up this year. DJ didn't so it's now a competition. If DJ wins it he starts. QB at Miami has no chance of winning that competition

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

He sure does

Jan 4, 2022, 8:46 AM

Caleb isn't guaranteed a starting position if he sucks it up, I would guess he'd have to earn his playing time no matter where he goes to the OP's point.

I believe CK committed before the season

Jan 4, 2022, 11:37 AM

he was expecting to come here as a back up who played a good bit, then take over. DJ's lack of performance opens the door for a real competition. The guy currently at Miami, if Williams goes there, is a dead fish there.

The kid was dumb enough to go to Miami knowing about their "ethics."

Guess he will have learned and important lesson, but there is always another dumb 17 year old coming along.

99% chance Caleb Williams has already decided on USC

Jan 4, 2022, 7:21 PM

However, if he goes to Miami to play for such an offensively-inept head coach like Cristobal, that would prove to me they bought him.

I'm certain he's going to USC because it makes total sense if he's trying to maximize his 2024 draft position.

If he goes to Miami, CFB is headed for a dumpster fire because lesser NFL prospects are even more likely to be bought.
