12-1 conference champions. The CFP leaves them out of the playoffs, what do you do? I get the argument that our schedule may not be strong, though I'd point to the Big 10 and Big 12 as not being any stronger. I'd also point out that outside of Georgia and Tennessee, no one else in the SEC belongs in discussion. But you have two two loss SEC teams ahead of us, which is just stupid. But do you:
1) Thank your lucky stars that the biggest middle finger in the history of the NCAA from your UNC Tarheels went essentially unnoticed?
2) Do you now have to vote for the expanded playoffs?
3) Does this mean the end for your conference in football?
Every iteration of this bowl/playoff system essentially sucks the weiner of the SEC. Yes, there are a few teams that are good but many are not. When you start from the belief that the SEC is better and you have 8-10 teams in the top 25 at the beginning of the year, then the SOS is skewed from the get go and is a self fulfilling prophecy. If Clemson goes 12-1 and is a conference champ and is left out then the cfp is broke. Yes we had a bad loss and yes it was late in the season. And, Clemson left control of its destiny up to others. So I'm not whining as much this year that we may not be in (still could happen), but more what changes do you make? We can't help that every team in the ACC thinks the game vs us is the National Championship and then tanks the game after we play them. We sort of can't control that we are in the ACC. FSU, Miami, Virginia Tech, etc. have just plain sucked. I get that it was the first game of the year, and alot of games have been played since then, but a team that lost to FSU and has two losses is in your Championship game. I was against the expanded playoffs, but this scenario makes me think it has to happen now or we have to change conferences.

Because the Playoffs are national, the conferences have nothing to do with the selections and that is why the system works.

couple of teams. LSU has two losses. You've put little thought in your argument and not answered the questions. I'm a little disappointed in the past it seems you have shown more intellect.

True, but eSECpn controls the narrative. If they had the final say so you would have Tennessee, UGA,LSU and Alabama playing every year.
Frankly I wish the other 4 power conferences would join together and form their own coalition and leave the SEC to their own. Of course you would have to eliminate our game with Carolina, UGA could no longer play Ga. Tech, FSU and Florida would be no more and for added pleasure we just don't schedule Notre Dame either.
Wonder how long it would be before the mighty SEC comes down from their horse.

Not all wins and losses are created equal. Some conferences play 8 conf games, some play nine. Some play different levels off ooc games. Ohio State, Alabama, Clemson play the schedule as it is. They cant control if some teams are good or bad year to year. If you swap Illinois for NW (out of division conference game) on Ohio State’s schedule, it looks a lot better. OSU’s record goes from 49-52 to 55-46. Ohio State cant control that NW is 1-9 this year and Illinois is 7-3. Or that the B1G west is atrocious this year. Not to mention, Ohio State usually has their hardest game at the end. Their last 2 opponents (as of now) are combined 16-4. Georgia’s remaining opponents are 10-10, Alabama’s are 11-9(that includes 7 win Austin Peay).

I was for it before your scenario so I'm probably not objective. That said, you laid out a compelling argument for a playoff.
Many things such as injuries, weather, schedules come into play that could cause a team to have one loss. I just think one loss that keeps you from the playoffs is a bad system.
I also believe there should be a spot/reward for anyone winning a p5 championship. Even a 3 loss champion. To me, that's what makes it fun. You could have a 2 loss team get on a roll and win it all.
I also feel a 12 team playoff would help stem the tide of having to have a couple super conferences.

carried alot of weight. If you're LSu for instance and you lose the conference championship (which is hypothetical I know), then you had your opportunity. That may be a bad example because they'd have 3 losses at that point. But if you lose the conference championship, again, you had your chance. If you then have one loss at the loss of the championship then I may be for you being in.

the national championship. Sure there’s been some teams that you could argue should have been included in the playoffs, but none of them would have actually won it all. So at that point, who cares? No need to expand unless we start seeing a #5 team that could have won it all.
