Bama's best defender

Jan 7, 2016, 9:04 AM

I say Ragland can lay the wood he hits like a Clemson man. He might cause a little bit of problems but will be tired by the 3rd quarter. Who do you guys think? TIA

There's no best defender on this Bama team. Every player does his job well. I've seen some great Bama defenses in my lifetime, but this one is special.

Re: said the Bama fan.***

Jan 7, 2016, 9:22 AM

Yes, I'm a Bama fan. And I mean what I said. Ya'll can live in your fantasy world that Bama's defense only looks good because they "haven't played anyone with an offense"*, but I'm telling you I've watched almost every Bama game for the last 20+ years and this defense is as good I've seen.

*By the way, I find this really funny because most Bama fans would say Clemson's offense only looks so good because they haven't played a great defense. For the record, I think Clemson has an exceptional offense that could cause a lot of problems for Bama's defense. I also think it's objectively true that Bama will be by far the best defense that Clemson has faced this year. I think it's going to be a great game.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

The best are the Tenn comparisons...

Jan 7, 2016, 9:54 AM

...when there's not a single guy on their offense that would break our starting unit, and likely not 2nd team.

That said, we know how Bama has improved since that game, and Clemson has done nothing but regress.

badge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

There's no such thing as a stupid question, just stupid people who ask questions.

So your 1st and 2nd team Center,,,,,,,

Jan 7, 2016, 10:24 AM

is better than an All-American. Yep, that makes a lot of sense.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

He's good, but he wasn't 1st/2nd/3rd team AP AA.

Jan 7, 2016, 10:30 AM

Yes, I'd take both our guys.

Love that you found the single position where an argument could be made though.

I would however take our guys, as they have been in charge and leading a line that has been a lot more productive than UT was all year.

Well, I guess the Joe Moore award was a fluke then

Jan 7, 2016, 11:03 AM

Yep, you're REALLY making more sense now.

:sarcasm:

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

No, but you said AA. I knew he won the award...

Jan 7, 2016, 12:11 PM

...but you obviously are now changing your tune.

He's really good, but IMO wasn't as productive as either of our guys.

Again - let's really focus here, as it is a good debate, that said - it's the only spot where it is even a debate.

Bama's defense just wasn't good enough to stop SWAG from carving them up.

Re: Bama's best defender

Jan 7, 2016, 9:14 AM [ in reply to Re: Bama's best defender ]

2011 and 2012 were both better defenses as a whole. This might be the best DL Bama has ever had but the LBs are par and the DBs are not nearly as good as other years (still pretty decent).

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Bama's best defender

Jan 7, 2016, 9:26 AM

I think Bama's DBs are better than you're giving them credit for. And I think the whole defense plays better as a unit than the '11-12 defenses did, as good as they were. I've never seen a Bama defense that so consistently pressures the QB on pass plays.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Bama's best defender

Jan 7, 2016, 9:31 AM

So what happened to that consistancy in the Ole Miss game???

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Bama's best defender

Jan 7, 2016, 9:38 AM

I wish I knew. I do know it's the only game all year that the defense gave up more than two touchdowns. I do know that the team has improved significantly since that game.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Bama's best defender

Jan 7, 2016, 9:43 AM

I'm just messing even I think that game was a fluke. That one pass off the guys helmet. If you guys played em again id have my $ on Bama.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Bama's best defender

Jan 7, 2016, 9:34 AM

Robinson is the best pure talent.
Ragland is the leader.
Williams is the pass rushing specialist.
Cyrus Jones is the best pass defender.
Eddie Jackson has turned into a great safety.
Minkah Fitzpatrick has played incredibly well as a freshmen.

Sorry, I can't choose any one of those guys and say "he's the best!" They all do their jobs. They complement each other.

Re: Bama's best defender

Jan 7, 2016, 10:12 AM [ in reply to Re: Bama's best defender ]

Off-topic but did I hear your leader, Mr. Ragland, say "Tennessee" when asked who the best offensive line was that Alabama has faced this season? Would you agree with that statement?

And to any Alabama fan stating that we haven't played any good defenses this year... They obviously don't know their way around a stat sheet.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Bama's best defender

Jan 7, 2016, 10:16 AM

Well stats mean nothing to them unless its from SEC games.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Alabama's defense is the best ever to grace the football field.

Jan 7, 2016, 10:23 AM

It'll be a challenge for sure, but would we really want to win theThe World Heavyweight Title any other way?

Will be a beautiful sight to see, Clemson's courage in this one.

Re: Bama's best defender

Jan 7, 2016, 9:32 AM [ in reply to Re: Bama's best defender ]

I agree it's the best D we have played. But DW doesn't get sack so the pressure isn't much of an issue he will run right by with the draw or hit his quick routes.

Re: Bama's best defender

Jan 7, 2016, 9:11 AM

A'Shawn Robinson is their best defender though he may not be the most impactful. Jaylon Smith or whatever his name is from ND is better than any of Bama's LBs. That isn't to diminish Bama, just saying we have faced a LB with NFL 1st round talent before. I don't think we have played anyone with a Defensive Lineman like Robinson.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Bama's best defender

Jan 7, 2016, 10:49 AM

Ragland and Smith are both all American.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Bama's best defender

Jan 7, 2016, 11:10 AM

All American doesn't necessarily equate to being better. Ragland is good but not better than Smith. The whole LB corps for Bama is better than ND's. I think though that FSU's LBs are more athletic and just as good even if they don't hit quite as hard. FSU's defense is as talented and if they hadn't had a nightmare situation at QB they would probably be a 1 loss team right now. Their D is still legit. Bama's DL is a good bit better than FSU's though.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Finebaum - he defends Bama and talks them up constantly

Jan 7, 2016, 9:33 AM

Apparently the Tide has no weaknesses, is the
best college football team ever and could
probably beat the New England Patriots. You've
probably never heard Paul say anything bad
about Alabama.

Who is Clemson's Finebaum. The ACC needs a
channel so Clemson can have an ESPN homer.
Guess the closest thing now is Jeff Fischel
of the ACC Digital Network.

The idiot Coot in my office...

insists that Alabama would beat NFL teams like Cleveland, Jacksonville, Tennessee, San Diego, and San Francisco (he's a Dallas Cowboys fan too so he's didn't include them in his list).

This clown has made an awful lot of moronic statements over the years but this one really takes the prize.

Re: The idiot Coot in my office...

Jan 7, 2016, 10:52 AM

That is a ridiculous thing to think. It is hard to have anything against SC as an SEC fan because they are usually awful. And has returned to form now that Spurrier is gone.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: The idiot Coot in my office...

Jan 7, 2016, 10:55 AM

You guys sure are riding the coattails of an old Miss victory. This is a much different Alabama team that played that game back in September

Re: The idiot Coot in my office...

It's more relevant than the loss we had against y'all in 2008 but I keep reading / hearing about it.

Re: The idiot Coot in my office...

Jan 7, 2016, 11:05 AM

Wait, this is the first I've read of this, almost had forgotten about it.
