Basketball rules question: What happens when...?

Jan 2, 2013, 7:19 PM

a guy drives into the lane for a shot,

goes up,

draws a foul from one defensive guy,

puts the ball up

only to have it blocked by another defensive guy.

Does that 2nd defensive guy get credited with a block on the stat sheet?

Don't know for sure, but I would say it probably depends

on if the shot would count, like the continuation rule in the NBA. If they call the foul before the shot then I would assume no shot, no block.

So yeah, assume it's part of continuat'n and the ball's live

what happens there?

I would say count the block***

No block, shot only counts if it goes in. Otherwise its just 2 free throws.

I sure don`t know what the correct call is but IMHO the ball is dead when the whistle blows so no block is credited

NO--dead ball when the whistle blows for the foul

Not like in baseball when there are times where a dead ball can lead to some options
