including:

Will Brown
Will Swinney
Jacob Edwards
James Edwards
Jack Maddox

18 seniors + 3 current shortage = this should be a 21 member class ... minimum ...
not even considering potential transfers / early outs

What am I missing ?

Wednesday, December 15, 2021 is early signing day and Wednesday, February 2, 2022 is regular signing day. I'm sure some things are cooking.

2024 white level member flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

It surely couldn't be that we are waiting on guys we already

Oct 22, 2021, 5:49 PM

have offers out to and if they decide to go elsewhere we have other guys we'll offer. You know, like we did with Sapp. I guess we now figure this staff has forgotten how to coach and recruit, SMH

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

2024 white level member flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

According to T-Net

Oct 22, 2021, 7:45 PM

The entire offensive staff should be fired, they're bombing on the recruiting trail, and now they can't manage the roster. If that's not clueless, what is it? The gospel according to T-Net

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Link to a post seriously calling for the entire offensive staff to be fired?

Oct 22, 2021, 8:31 PM

Look, there are clearly issues on the offensive side of the ball, which go beyond inexperience and poor execution. One or two bad games on offense could be chalked up to random chance, but half of a season of horrible offensive performance suggests major issues for an offense that was supposed to be elite this year.

The frustrating part about TNet is that many posters respond with knee jerk reactions about our coaches winning national championships and fans being spoiled. That is the prevailing opinion here, not wanting to fire all of the coaches.

"Everybody needs to know that Coach Brownell is arguably the best coach to come through Clemson." -PJ Hall

So you have not seen one person seriously say that

Oct 22, 2021, 9:03 PM

Elliott should be fired, or Caldwell, or Grisham, or Spiller, or Streeter? Seriously? That's the whole staff. Fans are frustrated, but they are also irrational blowhards reacting like petulant children. It's been a crescendo of talk like that for weeks.

The issues are obvious. If there was a quick, in-season fix it already would have been implemented. There isn't. So you either trust one of the top coaches in college football history, or you don't. I do. You don't fix personnel issues in season. Not like you can make trades.

And you sure don't call for heads in season. The staff will work itself out. Elliott likely moves on. Caldwell likely retires.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: So you have not seen one person seriously say that

Oct 22, 2021, 11:00 PM

Why can fans on public message boards say what they feel is right without people telling they are wrong like they even in know themselves. If you think without DRAMATIC improvement that Dabo needs to give the whole offensive staff a new paint job then your a fan of Coaches more than Clemson.

try to project strawmen arguments on ME when I rightly pointed out there was an issue managing the roster in the first place? FOH with that

2024 white level member flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I've said through the whole season there

Oct 23, 2021, 9:01 AM

are personnel issues. That's what is obvious. Some of it is rotten luck. Our primary slot receiver, Spector, has not played all year. No coach can fix that. The future at slot, Taylor, blew out his knee. Another guy, Stellato, has been viewed as unready. You doubt the coaches there? Dabo and Elliott have both coached WR and you have Grisham now. You think there is enough knowledge there to make that decision. Maybe he plays today as we have basically 4 healthy receivers. Ross, an athletic project in Ajou, and the Collins's, 2 true freshmen. That's personnel.

OL is personnel. Played 3 different Centers due to injury. Bock has played 3 different positions. Depth and continuity, which we all know is crucial on any OL, severely hampered by injury or Covid. That's personnel.

QB could be personnel. I'm not writing DJ off yet. He's replacing absolute legends. His developmental curve is clearly not where DW or Trevor were. He struggles with key elements of our offense like the RPO and read option. That may change, but right now it's personnel.

Many here are expecting coaches to pull a rabbit out of their hat. Completely change scheme, in season. There clearly may be some recruiting misses as well. That happens. But you are not fixing those things in season.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

So why the pushback when I said it? Clearly you agreed

Oct 23, 2021, 12:09 PM

We have 5 WR out today if you count Taylor

Oct 23, 2021, 2:14 PM [ in reply to So why the pushback when I said it? Clearly you agreed ]

how exactly do you manage a roster for that? We've played 3 centers, how many you want? No decent QB was coming here, portal or however, with DJ a preseason Heisman candidate.

Everyone is looking to lay blame, few are looking realistically. We're here because we had 9 new or new positional starters on offense to begin the year and since then it's been chaos trying to field a consistent line up. We've had 4 guys start every game at the same position on offense.

Now, have there been recruiting misses? Possibly. Every team has them. But they're exasperated when injuries or Covid or whatever intrudes as well.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: So you have not seen one person seriously say that

Oct 23, 2021, 9:32 AM [ in reply to So you have not seen one person seriously say that ]

You're just wrong on every front. First, as you've been told a million times (though I get the dementia is tough), it's not one season, or are you forgetting how the team performed against Ohio State and LSU in the last two playoffs? It's been an issue that those of us who know football have noticed for years now, but it's just now revealing itself to people like you, who do not know football, because we no longer have the best QBs in team history and the best RB in ACC history to cover it up.

Elliott makes more money than 80% of head coaches. He should produce, but we've seen diminishing returns each year since he became the only offensive coordinator. Caldwell was once a great coach, but as you know, you just lose a step as you get older. The offensive line has been among the worst in the FBS (despite being made up of highly rated recruits) for 3 years now. Streeter was objectively the worst quarterback Clemson's had in the last half-century, but maybe the worst ever. He never should have been put in charge of developing quarterbacks. And he's done a bad job. Deshaun Watson had to hire a private coach to help him. Kelly Bryant never developed. Trevor Lawrence's throwing mechanics and footwork deteriorated the longer he spent with Streeter, and he's now having to unlearn bad habits in the pros. And now we see a greater deterioration with DJ. So yes, I want all three of these men gone. They make too much money to justify us keeping them on when they're unable to produce.

I'm pleased with CJ so far. I think the running backs are playing very well considering how terrible the offensive line is. Lyn-J and Dukes left because they're not as good as the young guys. I want him to stay. Grisham has helped make us WRU, and he's earned the benefit of the doubt. The drops this year are odd, but I put most of the blame on DJ, who throws every ball as hard as he can. I wouldn't lose sleep if he left, but I'm more than okay with Grisham remaining on staff.

But I work with winners, and that's what I expect from myself and those around me. I am very appreciative of what Dabo's done for Clemson. But you don't get paid $10 million for past achievements. You have to continue to produce. I am still happy with him on the whole, but he's a CEO type who can sell this "culture" to recruits. We wouldn't have had this success without firing Steele and hiring Venables. And he needs to make the decision to get rid of those coaches who aren't up to snuff and bring in someone who is. And do not promote internally, as that crap won't work in today's evolving game.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

So don't trust the guy who is one of the

Oct 23, 2021, 10:14 AM

top coaches in college football history, but do trust guys who only work with "winners," like you.

Gotcha

Yeah, I know. But I don't have any problems with pwo getting a scholly or with coaches kids, legacies etc. Good PR and they're valuable for culture and Scout teams... And you never know when we'll need a Will Brown.

That said, over signing isn't a problem either. At our level, you'll have players leave early.

A lot of stars by the juniors and sophomores so they could bolt. Wouldn't shock me to see at least 2 more transfer. Hopefully Brannon can get over his covid. And I remember being stoked about the left footed punter when he came in on scholly.

Am I wrong in saying we could have carried at least 4 more over last year? Skalski, Turner, Spec, Foster, none of the covid seniors counted, correct?

Yes, he does have good hands and has not bobbled a snap. As for our ability to run a a decent fake with the normal back up QB throwing the ball, we took that one out of the playbook and teams don't need to defend against it. Teams don't carry designated holders on a full ride except in this case. Obviously, he has no ability to play another position so yeah, it's another wasted scholarship.

That is exactly the issue. They are other 3-4 star players who would love the opportunity to be the holder but see that the position is already locked up for the next 6-8 years with the Swinney boys. Look back over the last 5-6 years and see if the depth chart ever listed a back-up holder….. Just sayin…The depth chart guys get to travel.

10 regular seniors...the COVID waiver super seniors don't count against the 85 limit

Oct 22, 2021, 11:09 PM

I looked into it & based on my country math (the regular seniors moving on or becoming super seniors themselves, the walk-on scholly underclassmen being only a 1 year deal, & the 12 incoming recruits so far), I came up w/ 82 as long as no further transfers or early departures to NFL.

Biggest need w/ the remaining 3 is RB (Trevor Etienne has us in top 5 & should be our biggest remaining focus, think showing Keith Adams Jr as a grayshirt offer). I know we're also in top 5 of 3 DL (Stewart, Perry, Curry), 1 safety (Branch), & 1 WR (Greene).
