comments make me think twice and wonder if they have a point. How can anyone give this and related comments a thumbs up? If you can't see racism in references to bananas and bunches, then you're fooling yourself.

Do you know for sure that the bananas were hung on the sign with racist intent? Everything that happens in this world of ours is not racist. Your average white person does not wake up in the morning thinking about how to mess with a person of color. Typically the average white person is too busy trying to manage the stuff in their lives to worry about messing with someone else's life. By the same standard if folks would worry less about the other person and more about themselves our world would be better off.
What I heard is four coeds were driving back from Publix. The girl in the back looked in her bag and saw a spider on the bananas so she decided to throw them out the window. An hour later someone walking by spotted the bananas. He does not like bananas but hated to see them sit on the ground and rot. He decided to stick them on the sign post so hopefully someone who liked bananas would spot them and take them home. He did not pay to attention to the subject matter of the sign and thought nothing of his actions.
This makes more sense than thinking someone spotted the sign and did not like the content, then walked to their car, drove to the grocery, purchased banannas, drove back to park the car, walked to the sign then hung the banannas on the sign post. Who goes to that much trouble to hand banannas on a sign which may or may not get noticed?

but the rest of it. C'mon get your head out of the sand. The bananas were obviously supposed to be racist. I don't know if the people who hung them did it to stir up trouble or thought they were being funny but the intent is obvious.
Of course it does not represent Clemson but there's no reason to look like an idiot and try to defend the banana hanging.

Hell I just wonder if there is any cameras pointed at that area.
It wouldnt be the first false flag race claim. Seems like they are pretty rampant no a days.

they have had issues with fans throwing bananas at black players and doing monkey chants. Are they just throwing bananas at them to try and give them some extra potassium? Maybe showing their appreciation of the animal monkey with the chants?

Naturally, I expected plenty of "lighten up" responses, particularly in reaction to the fact that society has become so overly sensitive and worried about political correctedness.
To me, TV shows like Tosh.0, Impractical Jokers (to a lesser extent), Key and Peele, and even the Chapelle Show (from back in the day)-- which make light of these sensitivities in an edgy kind of way--are hilarious. In fact, they comprise the vast majority of the shows I watch. At the same time, the posted comments (and GIFs) felt different--and seemingly more hurtful, offensive, and divisive than others. That's where I was coming from. As an example, I don't think you will find Tosh.0 making references to bananas with black people. And perhaps this is for good reason. To me, it comes across as far more dehumanizing and deprecating than humorous and good-spirited. In that regard, I take issue with it...But maybe it's just me.

Maybe because some of us think the United States of the Offended is ####### stupid?
Maybe some of us enjoy these stupid kinda jokes there is a reason who Comedians such as Dave Chappelle were so awesome.

I don't care who you are, that was funny.
As a side note, rumor around campus is the bananas hung from the sign were place there by an African-American student.
If true, I can't help but wonder if it achieved the desired result (creating racism where none currently exists).

And they are still out there.
There are meetings this week about racial injustice etc and if people want to talk about the issue.
I thought they would fizzle out but it's going strong

Five people got arrested a few days ago after they were told to leave Sikes and those "Clemson 5" did not.
