So what does this mean for Clemson?

Jul 22, 2021, 9:47 PM

With Okie and Tex likely moving the the SEC, what does that mean for Clemson? It will have an effect. Just not sure yet what that will be. But in the long run, I do enjoy games vs SEC opponents. Those who disagree are welcome to sell their tickets for that little scrimmage in Charlotte on Sept 4th. I can't imagine the SEC expanding to 16 members and still only playing eight conference games. So will future games vs the SEC be cancelled? We got LSU coming in a few years. Is that now in jeopardy? Even if it stays at eight, LSU might not be interested in playing a possible top five team if they already have Auburn, Bama, Texas and Oklahoma on their schedule. Things to consider. Also, will this hurt us in recruiting? TV deals? Is the South Carolina game going away like the Texas-Texas A&M game did? ( guess that's back on) just wondering.

ACC needs to contact OU & Texas about joining

At least make the d@mn call. They may see it as more appealing and it immediately raises the ACC to top tier status. That means more $$$$

They sure had no problem canceling the state rivalry games last year. It is worrisome.

I love the big out of conference games during the season. Gonna be mighty boring with teams playing same conference teams every year with less variety in the schedule from now on.

I'm more concerned about what happens to ACC. What happens to ACC will directly affect what happens to Clemson (and FSU). There will be several more dominoes fall. TX and OU moving are the beginning, not the end, of the conference realignments.

Until we know how the ACC responds we will have no idea how it will affect the individual teams in the conference.

Well it seems our new ACC commissioner laid down his cards early about the playoff expansion. I don’t know how he’s going to make up the revenue because the ACC network is hard to watch unless it’s football season. ND won’t join if it’s the ridiculous 12 team playoff format. BIG10 is rolling in Benjamin’s. Not many worthy left to choose from.

If Texas and OU really do end up in the SEC, I can see a couple bottom tier SEC schools wanting out. There wouldn't be any worth much football wise to the ACC, but ol' UofSC COULD be one of the ones looking for a way out... I suppose Vandy and UK could be a couple others. Those two would raelly only be interesting OUTSIDE of football, though.

I don't think this changes that much for Clemson. It might even be a positive. It seems like this will hurt the SEC as well as Oklahoma. The conference with TX & OK is just too competitive. Who wants to spend 3-4 years on all of those .500 teams that have zero chance at even a conference championship? Oklahoma will turn into just another above average SEC team.

Yes I thought the SEC was a better conference and more exclusive club at 10. SCAR and ARK then aTm and Mizzou have done nothing for them but water them down IMO.

We will play South Carolina and whatever SEC team

Jul 22, 2021, 11:05 PM

advances out of the playoff round of 8 to the playoff semifinals where we will be waiting with a bye. Thats two games vs SEC teams. We will likely have a third game vs SEC in the National Championship game. If we win, they will cry and blame it on the fact the we are not beaten up and tired like they are. All the while, we will be building yet another case and shining another natty trophy for the football ops building. Rinse and repeat.

They will claim that we have that advantage even though we will likely play Notre Dame, Florida State, Miami, Virginia Tech, North Carolina and some big team from another part of the country as non-onference like Michigan or Southern Cal.

It could hurt recruiting a little because some kids will be adament about playing in the SEC. However, the situation will not be any different than now. When you are consistantly in the top five and making the playoff semifinals, you can recruit.

That’s an extremely optimistic take. I can see other paths here....

In the era of NIL, cash will be king. SEC will be signing an historic TV contract, that will leave the ACC in the dust.

The Big 10 has a complete idiot in charge who is there more because of political correctness than merit. They will end up firing him when they realize they are falling way behind. That may take a while.

The ACC needs to move before the Big 10 wakes up- but any move they make is a long shot and not likely to be successful- they need 2 heavyweights to join, and NOT WVU. I don’t see it happening, but ND and PSU are the best shot they have.

If the ACC isn’t successful, ultimately when the Big 10 wakes up they will poach from the ACC- probably UVA, UNC, and GT- due to academics and state population.

I see grey clouds for Clemson, as much as I love this university, I have to be realistic.

How do you keep Gamecocks out of your yard?
• Put up goal posts
What does a Gamecock grad call a Clemson Tiger grad in 2 years?
• Boss

It means two things, which are interconnected.

Jul 23, 2021, 10:48 AM

1) The SEC consolidates their claim of being the top conference, if anybody really had any doubts about that already being the case anyway.

2) The ACC will be at risk for being the big loser, as the Big 10 and Pac 12 will most likely absorb the remaining Big 12 teams, while the ACC twiddles their collective thumbs.
