A tobacco merchant in Cola suggested Coots (aka GameCoccks) and history was made in the form of a bird that loudly let out that infamous Cockle Doo-Doo...changing Usc's mascot image from one of being strong & bold from the jungle to one that is small and from the barn yard. Well, there you are.. Coots!

And Tigers' mascot name came from Princeton rather than from Auburn.

From The Encyclopedia of Gamecock Football:

In 1892, just before our first game against the Furman Mountaineers:

"by popular vote of the student body, our colors would be garnet and Black and our nickname would be the Jaguars."

In 1902, which BTW was our best season ever % wise, we adopted the gamecock name. Again from the Encyclopedia of Gamecock Football:

"This was also the year that we abandoned our Jaguar nickname and adopted the feisty gamecock as our mascot, thanks to a Columbia tobacco merchant."

Clemson players and coach Riggs voted to adopt...

the Tigers as their mascot due to the fact that Princeton had just won the national championship. It's in the history of Clemson football on the Clemson website somewhere.

You know that deep down, every Usuck fan

has to hate the idea that their mascot is a chicken. Call it a gamecock, rooster or whatever. Their mascot is a chicken.

Funny

No.

Game #### is a much cooler chant than Jag Uar.

No, no it's not. Sorry. Nope.

sounds like a chant at a Gay pride parade..

Not that there is anything wrong with that. So you can take solace that even though your team is one of the worst in the history of college football, y'all were the first to embrace the LGBT community with your nickname, chants, and your transgender mascot.

But Tillman Hall came from Auburn.
