So this extra year of eligibility

Aug 25, 2020, 10:31 PM

Does it mean that a freshman(for example) that plays this year will be a freshman again next year? Or is it he’s only a freshman again next year If he opted out of this season? Reason I ask is in the article with Rodger’s interview he states Braden Galloway will benefit from the year of eligibility. Anyways GO TIGERS!!!

I also wonder what, if any, impact this will have on XT. The plan was to play him 4 games so he could save a year of eligibility and hopefully play next year at full physical health.
Does this mean that we can expect to see him more this season? I hope so.

I had not really thought about it till I saw Amari's comment

For Galloway this is like getting back that year he lost from an eligibility standpoint.

The players get the year of intelligibility no matter how many games they play this year. This is essentially a free year for everyone. I'll try and find the article.

true up to the normal 85 rule? At some point the players w the extra year leave but till they do how will scholarship counts be handled? And how will the number of players signed each year be handled. Especially for the SEC schools who always oversign anyway

Think of it as a Covid redshirt year to be used after normal eligibility is used up.

For the player count, any player using their covid redshirt should not count against the 85 man limit.

Most players will leave before they use the covid redshirt so teams should be able to manage the roster. After 5 years they will be back to normal.
