Heisman trophy winners, Pitt may have two. I know Tony Dorsett was, but not sure about Dan Marino. I know Hugh Green was not. They both have national championships. It was fun hearing that Pitt beat Georgia at the last second in the Sugar Bowl the night we beat Nebraska in the Orange. It was awesome watching the "Pull the Plug" game when Pitt was beating South Carolina so badly in Williams-Brice in 1981 that ABC decided to go to another game.
I don't even want to think about what Pitt and Cuse did the last time they played us and, as someone said, we at least get the opportunity for some payback.
I think both of these schools have great football histories and are good additions to the ACC. Sure they may not be rivals now, but they are contiguous and bring in two huge states to the ACC footprint. A couple of good showings vs Pitt and Cuse and Death Valley being on the airwaves over and over in those states and we could get some good offensive line recruits out of Pennsylvania, New Jersey and maybe upstate New York. I know our recruiting bread and butter is Florida, Georgia, SC and NC, but we have and could agan get some very good players from that area.
Do you think the Washington Huskies complained about being in the same conference as Arizona State or UCLA? And now Utah and Colorado? Missouri and South Carolina, or Florida? I know Mizzou has been pretty good lately, but do you remember 62-9 in 2000? I can remember when they were one of the worst teams in the country in the 80's and 90's.
The ACC probably has the best footprint in the country.
