Dabo gave them a fair amount of respect.

I'm over 40 and still dumbfounded they went to an ACC Championship before us.

You gotta remember Grobe was their HC then, plus Bowden was ours. I'm really not surprised at anything we missed on when he was here.

Grobe played a big part in Bowden's downfall. Winning the ACC (albeit during a historically weak period) without fancy facilities or elite recruiting really made everyone wonder why Bowden couldn't get there.

We were 2 TDs behind Wake in the second half, at home. Needed 10 unanswered points in the 4th and a long FG from Catman as time expired to pull out the win. Turnovers 3-0.

Can't sleep walk against Wake. Or NCSU. Or FSU for that matter.

I'd bought 6 lower deck seats for ACC championship in CLT, about halfway through the season. I'd invited some friends and family to join us with the other 4 tix.

All of that was on Cat man.

GASP, We actually left the stadium and we're watching at the tailgate. This was 7 yrs after I graduated, so it's not just students and has been happening longer than this year, but I digress

We were watching at the tail gate and the stadium noise erupted long before the delayed TV showed the good kick.

Didn't have to reneg on my offer to take friends to CLT and we had a blast at the ACC championship game

Equip Manager, I witnessed Wake beat us in front of probably 50k fans on a cold rainy day.

Game was in Valley and was the final nail in Hatfield’s career.

Wake is sneaky good.

better yet, my son’s first game was in Winston

Oct 3, 2017, 11:59 PM

and we saw Tigers go down 28-0 (I think) before Gaines Adams blocked a FG and returned it for a TD.

Had to be 2005 or 2006. My son was a spot and told him he’d never go back to a Clemson game if we lose to Wake.

We were never down 28-0. The score was 17-3 when Gaines blew up that fg attempt and took it to the house, making it 17-10. Then the tiger offense took over in the fourth quarter.

I was at that game, too. It seemed like the stadium gates were left unattended in the middle of the 3rd and people were just coming and going as they pleased. Losing to Wake like that just a few short years after our run in the 80s was pretty disappointing.

I remember listening to at least one game against them back in the 80s under Danny. I was looking over at my Fellow Tiger Brethren and asking, "What's going on with our Tigers?", as we lost inexplicably to an inferior team.

Have never slept on Wake since... Sort of Like NC State in their house.

We can throw respect at them all we want, but bottom line, they are out talented at every position. FSU played stupid in that game, should have stayed between the tackles. Kelly Bryant 3 times better than Blackmon in all phases. Feaster will have a huge day, and all the respect in the world will do them no good when that Clemson defense smothers Wolford. Get ready to watch Wilkins and the rest of that front four having another good time on the sidelines about midway through the 3rd quarter. And, I'm over 60.

This is not Bowden's Tigers. Talent and coaching will overcome heart most every time, especially when heart comes with that same talent. I honestly don't see WF giving us any better of a game than Louisville or VT.

20 year olds were 9 when Wake won the ACC.

Oct 4, 2017, 6:29 AM

They're very good this year, but it's a year-to-year thing and three years out of four they're bad, so you can forgive people for not taking them as seriously as a VT or FSU.

It will be a fight between our starters, but our depth will wear them out.

Did you watch the BC game?

Oct 4, 2017, 6:35 AM

Wake is a better version of BC. NC State is a more talented but less disciplined version of Wake.

Wake will come prepared, they will play well, and they will lose, but it won't be like USuCk or Kent State.

Re: Did you watch the BC game?

Oct 4, 2017, 6:45 AM

Clemson's trench play will dominate on both sides of the ball. Wolford is scrappy, I'll give that to him, but thats not enough. His 3 year record against Clemson is 0-3. Last 3 years, scores have been 35-13, 33-13, and 34-20. This year will be a little worse, IMO, I'm saying 45-13.

badge-donor-05yr.jpgmilitary_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Couldn't care less about his career record.

Oct 4, 2017, 6:49 AM

Those were different teams, on both sides. I said they were going to lose. I'd be very surprised if it's 45-13. Their DL is better than you're giving them credit for. You don't get 17 TFL on FSU as a fluke.

Re: Couldn't care less about his career record.

Oct 4, 2017, 8:18 AM

Yes, with this year's depleted FSU OL, you do. Not saying Wake isn't a scrappy team, but they do not have the right combination of talent+playcalling to beat a team like Clemson.

Re: Couldn't care less about his career record.

He has said multiple times he doesn't think they will win, but it will be closer than people are giving them credit for. And I agree.

Re: So no one respects Wake? Am I the only one over 40

Oct 4, 2017, 7:07 AM

I am over 40 years old but age is pretty irrelevant, no team should ever "sleep" on another team. There is an old saying that is especially true in CFB. "Any team can beat another team on any given day" If we get caught "sleeping" on WF we will lose, period. Wake's quarterback is good, Wake has some decent receivers, Wake has a very disciplined and scrappy D. Point is Wake has talent and they will not be a pushover. We are the defending National Champs and will get everyone's best shot. Now am I saying that if we play a good game that Wake has the talent and depth to beat us, no, but if we come out with a big head and think that just by walking out on the field we will intimidate them and they will just roll over and give up, we will lose like we did last year against Pitt who was not equal in talent but played to win when we did not.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I respect them and remember their glory days (I'm 49)

Oct 4, 2017, 6:54 AM

But I feel pretty good about this one. Still, there is no question that if we take them too lightly, they can beat us. As can almost any team on our remaining schedule.

We had one close call and one bad loss last year. People have short memories, don't they? Even people under 40.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Respect Wake here. Always fond memories of this series (mostly).

- First game I ever attended was the 1981 game which the Tigers won 82-24. Been hooked ever since.
- They gave up a home game in the 80s to play us in Tokyo. Pretty cool.
- They gave up another home game in the 80s to play in Death Valley and get the big pay day. Wish they still did that occasionally but guess it is not necessary with the TV money everyone now gets.
- Wake did not vote for the extra year of probation.
- We have a long history with them, unlike Syracuse and Louisville. Tradition matters. I hope we always continue to play Wake.

Yes they are a small school and it’s hard for them to consistently field a competitive football program. They add tons of value in non-revenue sports. Long live Wake in the ACC!
